Teen faces felonies

AULANDER – A 17-year-old male was arrested here Monday night in connection with last Wednesday’s high-speed chase.

The episode ended with two wrecked vehicles, one an Aulander police car.

Zachary Pelechaty, of NC 11 in Aulander, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, felonious speeding to allude arrest, three counts of damage to property and one count of careless and reckless driving.

He will be tried as an adult, according to Aulander Police Chief Mike Patterson.

Pelechaty was placed under a $12,000 secured bond and was later released.

&uot;Once we were able to get him stopped (Wednesday), he was polite and cooperative the entire time.&uot; Patterson said.

He continued, &uot;Once the investigation was completed and the warrants were drawn, he turned himself in.&uot;

Pelechaty’s first court appearance was scheduled for August 1.
