WINDSOR – A local businessman was arrested here Friday following a weeklong investigation.

Kulbir Singh Virk, 42, of Windsor, stands charged with felony counts of obtaining property by false pretense and identity theft.

Virk is the owner of Seven Star Store, formerly known as the &uot;little Red Apple&uot; on the outskirts of Windsor.

Apparently, Virk used a credit card left in the store by a customer for a personal gasoline purchase.

The victim noticed her card was missing and reported the loss to the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO).

Detective Sgt. Ricky Morris with the Windsor Police Department (WPD) investigated when the victim revealed that the last known place she had the card was at the Seven Star.

Morris went to the store and, with Virk’s permission, viewed video surveillance of the night in question to determine who had taken the card.

The video allegedly revealed that after the victim left her card on the counter, it was later picked up by Virk and then used for a $47 gasoline transaction.

Virk was arrested and served at the BCSO, where he was released on a $2,000 secured bond.

Morris stated there have been other suspicious incidents regarding money theft the police department was told about which allegedly occurred at the same store, but none could be proven.

&uot; Our main concern is if there are any other issues that citizens haven’t brought forward yet… if there are any other concerns regarding that store we need to know about it,&uot; Morris said.

Those wishing to share their concerns are urged to call Morris at the WPD at 794-3111.
