Billy S. Mitchell

WINDSOR n Billy S. Mitchell, 85, died June 15, 2007 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

A funeral will be conducted at 12 noon Tuesday at Gilliam Funeral Home Chapel, Windsor. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Windsor.

Irene R. Dunlow

AHOSKIE n Irene Roundy Dunlow, 63, died Friday, June 15, 2007 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville. She had been preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Clyde Roundy, three brothers, Warren “Lucky,” Roger, and Richard Roundy, and a sister, Diana Roundy.

A native of Hertford County, she was a homemaker.

Survivors include two sons, Donnie W. Dunlow, Jr. and his wife, Denise of Conway and Kevin D. Dunlow and his wife, Samantha of Matthews; and two grandchildren, Donnie W. Dunlow, III of Seaboard and Amanda K. Dunlow of Charlotte.

A graveside service was held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, June 18, in the Town of Ahoskie Cemetery with the Rev. Raleigh Johnson presiding.

The family received friends at Bridgers Funeral Home, Inc., in Conway, Sunday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and at other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Donnie Dunlow.

D. Chester Bridgers

CONWAY n D. Chester Bridgers, retired State of North Carolina Highway Maintenance Equipment workers and Supervisor of Dusty Hill Road, Conway, died Sunday, June 17, 2007 at Nash General Hospital in Rocky Mount.

Mr. Bridgers was born August 22, 1920, the youngest child of the late A.E. and Martha Barnes Bridgers. He is predeceased by siblings: Gaddis, Mary, Eunice, Irvin, Hermis, Bennie, Wilson, Grady, Gladys, Valera and Ellie.

He loved life and his fellow man, and treated others as he wanted them to treat him. He was a loving husband and father.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Margaret Vinson Bridgers, his son, David C. Bridgers, Jr. and wife, Lou, of Jackson; two granddaughters, Carmen Bridgers Johnson and husband, Clifton, of Jackson and Rebecca Paige Bridgers of Wilmington; two great-granddaughters, Carson Drew Johnson and Catherine Jaymes Johnson of Jackson; and several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, 10 a.m. in the Town of Conway Cemetery with Rev. Duncan Jones officiating.

The family will be receiving friends at Bridgers Funeral Home, Inc. in Conway, Tuesday, from 7 to 8 p.m. and have requested that in lieu of flowers, please make a memorial contributions to the charity of your choice.

W. Julian Fowler Sr.

NEWSOMS, Va. – William Julian &uot;Monk&uot; Fowler Sr., 82, a native of Newsoms, died June 16, 2007.

Fowler was an Army veteran of the World War II Pacific theater, a retired farmer and a member and former president of the Newsoms Ruritan Club. He was a member of the Mount Horeb Methodist Church. At Mount Horeb, he served in many positions: church superintendent, stewart and choir member. Monk was also a former member of the Newsoms Volunteer Fire Department and was currently serving on Newsoms Town Council. He was a member and deacon of Newsoms Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Julia Vann Fowler; one daughter, Joyce F. Hutchinson of Murfreesboro; two sons, William J. &uot;Bill&uot; Fowler Jr. and Larry M. Fowler, both of Newsoms; one sister, Agnes McMillan of Suffolk; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Newsoms Baptist Church by the Rev. Rodney Morrison. Burial with military honors will follow in Hollywood Cemetery. Sally R. Duffee

NORFOLK, Va. – Sally R. Duffee, 76, a native of North Carolina, died June 15, 2007. She was the widow of William Duffee.

Survivors include three children, David W. Duffee, Michael Duffee and Mary L. Collins, all of Norfolk; brother, Herbert L. Hasty Jr. of Courtland, Va.; sister, Sarah White of Seaboard; four grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel. H. Douglas Parker

WINTON n Col. Herbert Douglas Parker, US Army and National Guard, Retired, 86, a native of Gates County, died June 18, 2007 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

Parker was a retired rural carrier with the US Postal Service. He was a member of Winton Baptist Church, the American Legion, and had served on the Board of Directors of the Hertford County Library.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda P. Bross of Suffolk, Va., and Pamela P. Hagerty of Virginia Beach; one son, Michael D. Parker of Zebulon; two sisters, Shirley P. Dekema of La Hoya, CA and Peggy P. Hampton of Edenton; one brother, Deward M. “Smut” Parker of Edenton; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

An announcement will be made at a later time concerning memorial service arrangements. Flowers are to be omitted and contributions in his memory be directed to the building fund of Winton Baptist Church.

Audria E. Newsome

AULANDER n Audria Ethel Newsome, died June 17, 2007 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

A funeral will be conducted Saturday at Zion Grove Baptist Church, Aulander. Interment will be in the Claudia Ambrose Memorial, Aulander. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

She was a member of Zion Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, William Newsome of Newport News, Va., and Joseph Newsome of Aulander; two daughters, Cendyrethia Brown and Barbara A. Kerns, both of Aulander; two brothers, Joseph Hardy of Hempstead, NY, and Edward Hardy of Aulander; four sisters, Carlise Taylor of White Plains, Geneva Lewter of Ahoskie, Edith Jenkins and Ruby Robinson, both of Bronx; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

James Vann III

COFIELD n James Dennis Vann III, died June 17, 2007 at Obici Sentara Hospital, Suffolk, Va.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Philippi Baptist Church, Cofield, by the Rev. William Lassiter. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Vann was a member of Philippi Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Florinda Vann of Cofield; one daughter, Jenae Nesmith of Cofield; his parents, Marion Flood Vann of Cofield and James D. Vann Jr. of Suffolk; and one sister, Latisha Drake of Fuquay Varina.

Verlie Moore

MITCHEVILLE, Md. n Verlie Jeanette Moore, died June 15, 2007 at Doctor’s Community Hospital, Lanham.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Zion Hill Baptist Church, Colerain, by the Rev Bucas Sterling III. Interment will be in the church cemetery,

Survivors include four daughters, Lucy Geneva Hall of Mitchelleville, Frances Lee Sharpe of Ahoskie, Ruth Lewter of McSherry Town, Pennsylvania and Jeraldine Matlock of Brooklyn, NY; one brother, Samuel Perry of Charlotte; three sisters, Flora Lee Banks of Edenton, Mary Montague and Hazel Mitchell, both of Ahoskie; 27 grandchildren; and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren.
