RALEIGH – The North Carolina Independent School Athletic Association All-State teams have a TIC flavor.

The Tarheel Independent Conference placed six players on the All-State Softball team and four on the All-State baseball team.

“I’m extremely proud of our student-athletes from the Tarheel Independent Conference,” Ridgecroft Headmaster Elton Winslow, who is president of the TIC, said. “They work hard on the playing fields and in the classroom.

“For us to have this number chosen as All-State selections speaks volumes about the high level of competition in our conference,” he added. “I’m happy for every one of these deserving young men and women.”

Leading the way on the softball team are three selections from Lawrence Academy.

Senior catcher Ashley Swain was selected to the team. She was one of the team leaders at the plate and was also a driving force in defense behind it.

Joining her is junior pitcher Kendall Street, who was a dominant pitcher in the TIC, having won every game she pitched in the league this season, including the tournament championship.

Also on the All-State squad from Lawrence is sophomore shortstop Leanne Eubanks. She was a defensive stopper and also one of the league’s best hitters.

Joining them is Ridgecroft School freshman Tayler Smith. The shortstop/pitcher for the Lady Rams hit over .500 for the season and had 10 extra base hits.

Joining the local contingent from the TIC was Pungo Christian Academy’s Brinkley Johnson and Hobgood Academy’s Christine Torrence.

The All-State baseball team was headlined by Lawrence Academy senior pitcher Judd Whitehead, who was one of the most dominant pitchers of the season.

He is joined on the squad by teammates Evan Holton and Chad Whitehead, both of whom had excellent seasons for the NCISAA runner up Warriors..

Ridgecroft School pitcher Josh Morris, who pitched a perfect game during the season, was also chosen from the TIC.
