Helen V. Thompson

NORFOLK, Va.- Helen V. Thompson, 82, a native of Lewiston, died April 30, 2007, at Tandem Nursing Facility.

She was employed at the Pancake House at Wards Corner for more than 25 years from where she retired.

Survivors include two daughters, Gloria J. Upshur and Terri Thompson, both of Norfolk; one son, Ricky D. Little of Norfolk; two sisters, Annie Woody of Raleigh, and Valerie Johnson of Maryland; three brothers, Frank Johnson, Stanley Johnson and Norris Johnson, all of Lewiston; and three grandchildren.

A homegoing celebration was conducted Friday in the chapel of Metropolitan Funeral Service. Interment was at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Norfolk. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.metropolitanfuneralservice.com.

William H. Allen

LEWISTON – William Hill “Willie” Allen, 83, a native of Bertie County, died May 2, 2007 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

Allen was a member of Indian Woods Missionary Baptist Church and was last employed as a laborer at Harrington Manufacturing Company, Lewiston.

Survivors include his sons, Richard Allen and Melvin Allen, both of Baltimore, MD, Kenneth Allen of Aulander, Horace Allen of Portsmouth, VA, Jimmy Allen of Lewiston and Donald Allen, also of Aulander, daughters, Matilda Foreman of Newark, NJ, Peggy McAllister of Washington, DC, Carla Brown of Lewiston, Diane Allen of Aulander and Daphne Jacobs of Roxobel; sisters, Betty C. Cotton of Windsor and Ocelia Pickney of Hollywood, SC; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Indian Woods Baptist Church, Windsor, by the Rev. Ralph White. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Wilder’s Funeral Home Inc., Aulander, is in charge.

Jarvis Thomas

BALTIMORE, Md. n Jarvis Thomas, 81, a native of Hertford County, died May 1, 2007 at Joseph Richie Hospital.

A graveside funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Carver’s Park Cemetery, Murfreesboro. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, is in charge.

Survivors include his children, Keith Thomas and Michael Hudson, both of Baltimore and Randy Thomas of Severn; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

James R. Holloman

AHOSKIE n James Russell “Gig” Holloman, 74, a native of Ahoskie, died May 3, 2007 at his residence.

Holloman was a member of Aulander First Baptist Church and was employed as a laborer with Sidney Jones.

A funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday at Soul Saving Station Evangelistic Center, Ahoskie, by the Rev. Jarvis Parker. Burial will be in Aulander First Baptist Church Cemetery. Wilder’s Funeral Home, Inc., Aulander, is in charge.

Survivors include nieces and nephews.

Bobby H. Lamm

NASHVILLE – Bobby Harold Lamm, 72, a native of Nash County, died, May 2, 2007. Lamm was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Spring Hope.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Frances Tyson Lamm of the home; two daughters, Teresa Lamm Davis of Merry Hill, Brenda Lamm Boone of Nashville; two brothers, Bill Lamm and Ronnie Lamm, both of Nashville; five grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

Lillie Parks

NORFOLK, Va. n Mrs. Lillie “Lucille” Parks, age 80, of Norfolk, Va., and formerly of Powellsville, NC, was called to be home with the Lord on May 3, 2007. She was born in Gastonia, NC and had retired in Ahoskie, NC with her belated husband Clearance W. Parks.

Survivors include her daughter, Joyce Wilson of Timmonsville, SC and her son, Glenn Parks, Sr. of Virginia Beach, Va.; also left to cherish her memory are five grandchildren, Ms. Christine Wilson, Mrs. Michelle Wikkerrink, and Glenn Parks, Jr., all of Virginia Beach, VA, Mrs. Barbara Asby of Norfolk, VA and Ms. Cynthia Johnson of Moyock, NC; also eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held, Saturday, May 5, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at Massey Funeral Home in Aulander, NC. Burial will follow at Stone Creek Cemetery.

Creecy Student Succumbs

NEW YORK n Edgar “Gene” Powell of Bronx, NY, succumbed April 21, 2007.

The homegoing service was held Thursday at Frank R. Bell Funeral Chapel in Brooklyn, New York. Interment was in Pinelawn Memorial Park, Farmingdale, New York.

He moved to New York upon graduating from W.S. Creecy High School. Gene as he was affectionately called by family members and friends believed in working and saving to get what he wanted. He took employment in several fields until he found his niche. After working for Rose Brand Wipers for 12 years he retired January 31, 2007.

Edgar was married to Barbara Killings and from this union two daughters were born. They were divorced and Edgar never married again.

He leaves to cherish his memory Adrienne P. Johnson (Timothy) of Virginia and Leslie P. Grant (Glenn ); one granddaughter, Tiffany; two grandsons, Jason and Corey; six brothers, Gregory, Kenneth, George Jr., Maurice, Arthur of Baltimore, Md., and a brother, Zachary who lived in New Jersey; three sisters, Annette Brown, Paulette Thompson and Alverta Stewart; sister-in-laws, brothers-in-laws, all of Baltimore, Md.; three aunts, the Rev. Dr. Bernice G. Scott of Rich Square, NC, Geneva Howard of Bronx, NY and Doris Bond (Lance) of Long Island, N.Y.; and a host of cousins and other relatives.

Tullie Phillips

WINDSOR n Tullie Phillips, 86, died May 3, 2007 at Martin General Hospital, Williamston.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Francis Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Outlaw/Grandy family cemetery. Gilliam Funeral Home, Windsor, is in charge.
