Mamie S. Butler

GATES – Mamie Simons Butler, 87, died April 23, 2007.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Gatesville. Stallings Funeral Chapel, Gatesville, is in charge.

Glenda K. Mills

WINDSOR – Glenda Kathleen Mills, 64, died April 24, 2007.

A memorial service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in Walker Funeral Home Chapel.

Sheila W. Thomas

JACKSON nSheila W. Thomas, 75, died April 19, 2007 at the Halifax Regional Medical Center, Roanoke Rapids.

A homegoing celebration will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Severn, by the Rev. Elisha Barnes. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Faison’s Funeral Home, Inc., Seaboard, is in charge.

Survivors include one son, Randy C. Thomas of the home; one brother, Arthur Warren of Petersburg, Va.; a foster sister, Ethel Hawkins of Murfreesboro; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Bennie Deloatch

CONWAY n Bennie Deloatch, 68, formerly of New Jersey, died April 25, 2007 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete. Hood Funeral Home, Conway, is in charge.

Robert Knight

GATESVILLE n Robert Knight, 83, a native of Gates, died April 24, 2007 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at New Hope Baptist Church by the Rev. James Brown. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, is in charge.

Survivors include three sons, David Knight of Gatesville, Michael Knight of Gates and Carver Knight of Newport News, Va.; two daughter, Sharion Boone of Gates and Brenda Riddick of Edenton; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Edd Capel Lassiter

POTECASI – Mr. Edd Capel Lassiter, age 49 died at the Pinewood Manor Nursing Home on Wednesday, April 25, 2007.

Edd was born in Nash County and made his home in Potecasi where he lived all of his life.

He worked for years as a Logger.

Edd had a great love for life; he enjoyed talking and getting to know people. He enjoyed fishing at the beach and spending as much time outdoors as he could.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the following people, JoAnn Lingenfelger, David Cooper, Bob Deacon and Whitney Taylor along with University Hospice.

The family greatly appreciates all the visits and the concerned that was shown to Edd during his illness.

Preceding him in death are his mother and father, Elsie Beale Lassiter and Edd Hill Lassiter.

Survivors include one son, Michael Wayne Lassiter of Charlotte, NC, one stepson Donald Bennett of Winton, NC, two sisters, Hylah Exley and her husband Louis of Garner, NC and Agatha Belvin and her husband Jim of Charlotte, NC.

Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, April 28, 2007 at 2 P.M. at the Potecasi Baptist Church in Potecasi with the Rev. Bob Deacon officiating. The burial will follow at the Potecasi Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Potecasi Baptist Church from 12:30-1:30 P.M. just prior to the funeral service on Saturday.

Jimmy J. Bell

WINDSOR n Jimmy J. Bell, 79, died April 24, 2007 at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Gilliam’s Funeral Home Chapel, 706 Ghent Street, Windsor. Burial will be in Indian Woods Baptist Church.

Bennie W. Deloatch

CONWAY n Bennie W. “Ben” Deloatch, 68, died April 25, 2007 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. at Allen Chapel Church by the Rev. H. Sidbury. Family and friends will be at the visitation Saturday at 6:30 to 7:30 at Hood Funeral in Conway.

Lora Nichols

AHOSKIE n Lora Nadine Holliday Nichols, 78, a native of Hertford County, died April 21, 2007, in Roanoke Chowan hospital.

Mrs. Nichols was a longtime member of Earlys Baptist Church and the W.M.U.

She was a homemaker.

She is survived by two daughters, Joyce Nichols Brown of Trenton, and Diane Nichols Evans of Windsor; two sons, Butch Nichols and Louis Nichols, both of Ahoskie; a brother, Ernest Edgar Blowe of Ahoskie; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two greatgreat-grandchildren.

A celebration of life was conducted Tuesday at Earlys Baptist Church by the Rev. Ronald McSwain and Rev. Lester Jarrett. Burial was in Highland Memorial Gardens.
