NEA edges TCCS

LASKER – In a game that showed a lot of offense and little defense the Northeast Academy Eagles defeated Terra Ceia Christian School 18-14 here Monday.

The Eagles’ John Pope scored the first run of the afternoon as the Eagles took an early lead after the first inning.

At the top of the second four Knights crossed home plate to give the visitors a 4-1 advantage.

Terra Ceia held Northeast scoreless in the second, but added three runs of their own in the third to extend their lead to 7-1.

Northeast’s bats came alive as the Eagles scored nine runs in the third inning to take a 10-7 lead.

Lead-off batter Cole Vison started the drive and his hit was followed by a homerun from Hunter Deloatch.

Northeast batted through the line-up but left two runners on base.

Both teams were scoreless in the fourth.

The fifth inning was a different story as the first four Knights batters scored. TCCS held a slim 11-10 lead as Northeast took to the batter’s box at the bottom of the fifth.

Pope, Jay Duncan and Don Jernigan plated as Northeast retook the lead, 13-11.

The lead didn’t last long as Terra Ceia scored three runs in the sixth to go ahead by one run.

The Eagles bats continued to bring home the runs as Vinson, Pope, Jernigan, Duncan and James Sykes crossed home, giving the Eagles an 18-14 victory.

Duncan pitched seven innings for the win, facing 43 batters and striking out seven.
