ELIZABETH CITY – Megan Cowan’s no-hitter paced Bertie to win number 18.

The senior right-hander struck out 11 and allowed no runs and no hits as the Lady Falcons rolled past Pasquotank County High School 13-0.

“Megan was simply outstanding,” Head Coach Jackie Copeland said. “She had control of the game from beginning to end.

“Offensively, we hit the ball as good as we have all season,” she added. “I’m pleased with the way we played from top to bottom.”

The Lady Falcons started their scoring in the third inning, when they plated three runs. They added two in the fourth, one in the fifth and six in the seventh to secure the win.

In all, Bertie had 24 hits in the contest led by a 4-for-5 performance from freshman Jody Mizelle. Three other Lady Falcons had three hits. They included Cowan (3-for-3), Brittany Hoggard (3-for-4) and Christie Brown (3-for-4).

In addition, Holly Cowand was a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate.

Also hitting safely were senior Abby Parker, Caitlyn Dunlow, Courtney Dunlow, Kelly Cummings, Chelsea Dunlow and Andrea Dunlow.

Both Hoggard and Cowand had two-run inside-the-park homeruns in the contest.

The win boosted the Falcons to 18-1 overall on the season and 7-1 inside the Northeastern Coastal Conference.

Bertie will host First Flight High School at 4 p.m. Friday afternoon.
