LOUISBURG – Lawrence Academy grabbed a sixth place finish in the recent Louisburg Easter Tournament.

The Warriors lost contests to 3-A public school Oxford Webb and 2-A school Bunn while defeating 1-A private school Greenfield.

In the first game of the contest, Oxford Webb defeated Lawrence 15-9.

Judd Whitehead led the Warriors offensively with a 2-for-3 day that included two RBIs. Chad Whitehead and Evan Holton were each 1-for-3 on the afternoon.

Daniel Oliver suffered the loss while going three and one-third innings. He allowed seven hits and three walks while striking out two.

In game two, the Warriors bounced back to defeat Greenfield 9-1.

Dillon Ralph went seven innings and allowed five hits. He struck out four and walked three while allowing one run.

Chad Whitehead was 3-for-4 to lead the team offensively while adding a pair of RBIs. Gray Harrell was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and Daniel Oliver was 2-for-4 with one RBI. Ralph and Evan Holton were also each 2-for-4.

In the third game, the Warriors suffered a 4-1 setback to Bunn High School.

Judd Whitehead, a senior at Lawrence, suffered his first loss as a pitcher during his prep career. He allowed four runs on six hits and three walks while striking out four.

Chad Whitehead led the team offensively at 2-for-4 while Judd Whitehead and T.J. Johnston were each 1-for-3.

“I was disappointed in the way we played the first game,” Warrior skipper Robert Kravtiz said. “I thought we were a lot better than what the score reflected. We were winning 4-2 at one time and playing well, but a few walks, a couple of errors and a couple of hits changed the game quickly.”

Kravitz said game two was much better and that he was pleased with Ralph’s pitching.

“I thought he did a good job of keeping them off balance and out of sync,” he said.

The loss to Bunn was the most upsetting for the coach, however.

“That was a simple lack of execution,” he said. “We missed a couple of bunts that could have gotten runners in scoring position. We had the bases loaded three times with one or none out and didn’t score.”

The leading hitters in the tournament were Chad Whitehead who was 6-for-11 with two RBIs, Judd Whitehead who was 4-for-9 with two RBIs, Evan Holton was 3-for-7 with four runs scored and Daniel Oliver was 3-for-8 with an RBI.

Chad Whitehead, Judd Whitehead and Dillon Ralph were named All-Tournament.

The Warriors are now 13-4 overall.
