J. Clifton Kirkland

FRANKLIN, Va. – John Clifton &uot;Pete&uot; Kirkland, 71, a native of Northampton County, died April 4, 2007, at his residence.

Kirkland was a member of the Franklin Masonic Lodge No. 151 AF&AM, a lifetime member of the NRA, a charter member of the Urquhart-Gillette Sons of Confederate Veterans and a former member of the Franklin Jaycees. He retired from Union Camp Corporation. He was a member of Franklin Baptist Church for 46 years, a member of the Christian Men’s Bible Class and the 39ers.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Harris Kirkland; two daughters, Pamela K. Neave of Ivor and Angela K. Faison of Franklin; two sisters, Linda Radford of Rocky Mount and Betty Vaughan of Seaboard; and three grandchildren.

A funeral was conducted Friday in Franklin Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. A. Richard Childress and the Rev. Sharon James. Burial with Masonic rites followed in Southampton Memorial Park. Wright Funeral Home was in charge. The family suggest memorials be made to Franklin Baptist Church or Franklin Baptist Church Relay for Life Team, 208 N. High St., Franklin, VA 23851. Cohen Wesson Sr.

WINDSOR n Cohen Randolph Wesson Sr., 84, died April 4, 2007 at Martin General Hospital, Williamston.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete. The family will be receiving friends and family at 531 Grabtown Road, Windsor. Puckett-Purkett Funeral Services Inc., Roper, is in charge.

Karl Edmonds Sr.

RICH SQUARE n Karl Edmonds Sr., 50, died April 2, 2007.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Chapel Hill Baptist Church by the Rev. Clarence Myrick. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Lionel Whidbee Funeral Home, Rich Square, is in charge.

Evelyn D Abram

COMO n Evelyn Delores Abram, 62, a native of Hertford County, died April 1, 2007 at Obici Hospital, Suffolk, Va.

A funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, Como, by the Rev. Michael Wilson. Burial will be in Mt. Gilead AME Church Cemetery, Newsoms, Va. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, is in charge.

Survivors include four brothers, Johnny C. Barnes, Dwight Barnes of Como, Norfleet Barnes of Courtland and Michael Barnes of Hampton; and five sisters, Sandra Long of Como, Barbara Melton of Winton, Celestine Barnes of Maryland, Lori McGlohone of Georgia and Lisa Blakeney, also of Georgia.

Hattie Hayes

RODUCO n Hattie Mae Harrell Hayes, 79, died April 3, 2007 at Obici Hospital, Suffolk, Va.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at New Middle Swamp Missionary Baptist Church, Corapeake, by Dr. Claude Odom. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Stallings Funeral Home, Gatesville, is in charge.

Survivors include her husband, Jethro Jerome Hayes of the home; one daughter, Mary Bond of Gates; two sons, Trevor D. Hayes Sr. of Eure and Julius J. Hayes of Elizabeth City; two sisters, Goldie Knight of Gates and Bernice White of Franklin; one brother, Ylysses Knight of Eure; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Isaac G. Cale

AHOSKIE n Isaac Gaddy “I.G.” Cale, 71, of the 100 block of Peele Road, died Wednesday, April 4, 2007, in Roanoke Chowan Hospital.

Mr. Cale was born in Bertie County, a son of the late Warner Gaddy and Dorothy P. Ward Cale.

He was a retired farmer and a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Elizabeth Woodard Cale; a daughter, Dorothy C. Bailey of Powellsville; two sons, Joseph Cale and Adam Cale, both of Ahoskie; a brother, Carlton Cale of Ahoskie; grandchildren, Bonnie Holland, Isaac Cale, Jr., Steven Cale and Brandon Cale; and great grandchildren, Samantha Holland, Cody Holland and Candice Holland.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 9, 2007, at Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, with the Rev. Paul Ange and Rev. Robert May, officiating.

Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens.

The family received friends at the funeral home from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. on Friday and will receive friends at other times at the home of his granddaughter, Bonnie Holland, 307 Blue Foot Road, Ahoskie.

Andrew L. Faison

GREENSBORO n Andrew Lessie Faison, 87, a native of Hertford County, died April 5, 2007 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at New Haven Baptist Church, Murfreesboro, by the Rev. Barnes. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, is in charge.

Survivors include five daughters, Crista F. Bledsoe, Francis F. McCollum, Winnie F. Randolph and Sandra F. Little, all of Greensboro; Maretha F. Dickens of Conway; an adopted daughter, Yvonne Foust, also of Greensboro; three sons, Andrew L. Faison, Lewis F. Faison and Steve A. Faison, all of Greensboro; four sisters, Agnes Saunders, Josephine Simmons, both of New York, Millie Powell of Murfreesboro and Clarine Lassiter of Raleigh; 26 grandchildren; 47 grandchildren.
