AHOSKIE – The Lady Rams of Ridgecroft School defeated the Lady Knights of Terra Ceia Christian School, 8-6, Tuesday here thanks to timely pitching and spectacular defense.

Ridgecroft raised their overall record to 4-5-1, and evened their league mark at 3-3 in the Tarheel Independent Conference.

Kendra Godwin went 2-for-3 and her single in the bottom of the third inning helped ignite a six-run rally and propel the Lady Rams to the victory. Godwin also showed off her prowess in the outfield with two key defensive catches in right field.

Trailing 4-2 in the bottom of the third inning, Godwin sent a shot up the middle that plated two runs to even the contest.  Ridgecroft later scored two more in the inning to take the lead, 8-4.

In the top of the fourth, with a runner on third, Godwin made a diving grab in rightfield to preserve the lead and kill a rally.  Then in the fifth, Godwin came back to make another stellar grab with two Terra Ceia runners in scoring position to kill the final threat of the contest as both teams played scoreless ball for the final two innings.

Lauren Lilley shut down the Lady Knights in relief to help preserve the win.

&uot;With five games in six days this week,&uot; said coach Larry Smith, &uot;we can really make an impact on our record. We’ve got four seniors, but we’re still inexperienced. The girls give it all they can.&uot;

Ridgecroft will play a conference game in Belhaven Thursday against Pungo before returning home to host a pair of games in a weekend Easter holiday tournament on Saturday.
