BELHAVEN – Lawrence Academy continued to ride their Tarheel Independent Conference unbeaten streak here Friday.

The Lady Warriors used a seven-inning two-hitter from sophomore right-hander Kendall Street as they knocked off Pungo Christian Academy 8-0.

Lawrence’s ace pitcher struck out 15 in the victory and allowed two hits and no runs.

“Kendall was simply awesome,” Warrior Head Coach Bill Swain said.

Offensively, the Warriors plated three runs in the third inning, one in the fifth and two each in the sixth and seventh to take the win.

Courtney Mizelle led the Lady Warriors with a 2-for-4 day at the plate. Kendra Spruill was 2-for-3 for Lawrence while Ashley Swain and Sarah Capehart were each 1-for-3. Ashtyn Mizelle had the other hit while going 1-for-4.

“Our younger players n Kendra, Courtney and Ashtyn n got some big hits today,” Swain said.

Brinkley Johnson led Pungo with a 1-for-2 day at the plate while Chelsea Mizelle was 1-for-3.

The win boosted the Lawrence record to 9-1 overall and 6-0 in the TIC. It came just one day after the Warriors handled TIC opponent Albemarle School in an 8-4 victory.

Jennifer White picked up her second pitching victory of the season during the win. She struck out 12 while picking up the complete game win.

“Jennifer did a great job on the mound and we hit the ball well as a team,” Swain said.

Lawrence scored one run in the first and two each in the second and third before plating three in the sixth. The Lady Colts had one in the first and three in the seventh.

Mizelle led the way for the Warriors with a perfect 2-for-2 day while Mizell was 1-for-1 with a double. Street blasted a homerun while going 2-for-3 at the plate.

Ashley Swain was 2-for-4 with a double while Debbie Stotesbury was 2-for-5. White had a hit on the afternoon as well.

After facing off with Ridgecroft School at home Monday, the Warriors are off Tuesday before going to Bear Grass at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
