Bobby M. Perry

Bobby McCoy Perry, 62, of Rich Square, NC, departed this life on Friday, March 23, 2007 at Wake Medical Hospital in Raleigh, NC.

Bobby was born to the late John Thomas and Willie Perry on February 17, 1945. He attended and graduated from W.S. Creecy School in Rich Square. He worked for Perdue Farms in Lewiston, NC for over 20 years and was a faithful member of the Evangelistic Church of Deliverance in Weldon, NC.

Bobby leaves to cherish his memory, one daughter, Whitney Cierra Perry of Rocky Mount, NC; three stepsons, Darien, Brandon, and Jamel Donaldson of Rocky Mount, NC; two brothers, Fred Perry of Washington, D.C. and John Willie Perry of Bowie, MD; two sisters, Jane Perry of Washington, D.C., and Marjorie Bryant of Richmond, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. One brother, Thomas W. Perry and one sister, Jean Perry Walton, preceded Bobby in death.

A wake and funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 29, at the Evangelistic Church of Deliverance in Weldon, NC. The wake will begin at 11:00 a.m. followed by the funeral at 11:30 a.m. with Bishop William Cheek, officiating. Lightner Funeral Home, 312 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Raleigh, NC, is in charge of arrangements.

Geraldine B. Bryant

COLERAIN n Geraldine Blowe Bryant, 65, of the 400 block of Highway 42, died Tuesday, March 27, 2007, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

Mrs. Bryant was born in Hertford County, a daughter of the late Mattie L. and William F. Blowe.

She was a member of Earlys Baptist Church and the church Women’s Missionary Union.

Geraldine had retired as a switchboard operator and service representative with Carolina Telephone and Sprint with over 30 years of perfect attendance service.

After her retirement, she was a very active volunteer for many civic and community projects.

Surviving are her husband, Bill “Speck” Bryant; a sister, Rachel Blowe Young and husband, Carroll of Ahoskie; nieces, Donna Pittman and husband, John, Becky Cale and husband, Doug, and Lisa Outlaw and husband, Scott; great nieces, Lauren Cale and Kathryn Outlaw; great nephews, Brent Doughtie, Jason Cale, Brian Outlaw and Blake Outlaw; aunt, Helen Proctor Rawls; and her special pet, Lucky Pup.

A celebration of Geraldine’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 29, 2007, at Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, with the Rev. Ronald McSwain, officiating.

Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the home.

Roychester Jefferson

SEVERN n Roychester “Big Duck” Jefferson, 53, died March 23, 2007 at the Pine Wood Manor Assisted Living Facility, Ahoskie.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church Severn by Pastor Elisha Barnes. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Faison’s Funeral Home, Inc., 301 Park Street, Seaboard, is in charge. A viewing will be held from 2-6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mabel W. Jordan

WINTON n Mabel Wynns Jordan, 83, of the 800 block of King Street, died Tuesday, March 27, 2007, in Guardian Care of Ahoskie.

Mrs. Jordan was born in Bertie County, a daughter of the late William Augustus and Sue Harden Wynns.

She was a member of Winton Baptist Church and was a retired school teacher with the Hertford County Public School system.

She was the widow of William Mills Jordan, Jr.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Patricia J. Rea and husband, Thomas of Williamsburg, VA; her son, William M. Jordan, III and wife, Bonnie of Cofield; a granddaughter, Ellen Laney Rea; and a grandson, Thomas William Rea.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 29, 2007 at St. John’s Episcopal Church Cemetery, Brickel Street, Winton with the Rev. Jeff Douglas officiating. The family will receive friends at Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. Thursday, prior to services, and other times at the home of her son, Williams M. Jordan, III, Thomas Bridge Road, Cofield.

Larry D. Lewter

AHOSKIE n Mr. Larry Darnell “Busjack” Lewter, died Saturday, March 24, 2007 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

A funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 31, 2007 at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, Ahoskie, NC, by the Rev. Jarvis Parker. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Ahoskie. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Survivors include one daughter, Tamy L. Lewter; one grandchild, Eric Melendez, Jr.; his stepfather, Noah Lewter, all of Ahoskie; five brothers, Grady, Johnny, Don, Noah and Alvester Lewter, all of Ahoskie, NC; and four sisters, Virginia, Becky and Cindy Lewter, all of Ahoskie, Katie Brown of Philadelphia, Pa.

Blanche Vann

WINTON n Blanche Vann, died March 26, 2007 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Philippi Baptist Church, Cofield, by the Rev. C. Jerome Vann. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Survivors include two sisters, Mattie T. Russell of Norfolk, Va., and Evangeline Davis of Upper Marlboro, Md.

Norvell E. Vaughan

WOODLAND n Norvell E. Vaughan, 72, a native of Northampton County, died March 23, 2007 at his residence.

A funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday at Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Eddie Vinson. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A viewing will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hertford County Undertakers Chapel, Winton.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Porter-Vaughan of Woodland; a daughter, Patricia V. Spence of Petersburg, Va.; a brother, Wayne Vaughan and Nathaniel Vaughan, both of Poughkeepsie, NY; an adopted brother, Cecil Powell of Woodland; sisters, Willia Scott of Rich Square, Evelyn Johnson of Woodland, Dr. Geraldine Mitchell of Washington, D.C., and Joyce Anderson of Virginia Beach; and one grandchild.
