CONWAY – A veteran’s memorial park is moving ever closer to reality.

According to Conway Town Administrator Nancy Jenkins, the first order for bricks in the new park will be placed later this month.

“We are really excited,” she said. “We are hoping to break ground in the next several months so people can start seeing progress on the lot.”

The proposed park is to be built on the lot adjacent to the Conway Police Department and Conway Town Hall.

The park received a boost last month when Georgia-Pacific Resins in Conway made a significant contribution to the project. That donation will purchase five granite stones that will represent each of the five branches of the military.

Ron Walls, the G-P Plant Manager, appeared before the Conway Town Council to officially make the presentation. He indicated his company made the donation because the firm was a proud citizen of Conway and because they wanted to pay homage to veterans.

In all, the town has collected $32,000 toward the $100,000 they are seeking to build the park. Most of the money, according to Jenkins, has come from sale of individual bricks.

There are two ways to purchase bricks to be placed in the memorial park. The first is a 4”x8” light gray brick that can be purchased for $100. That donation is for civilians and businesses.

The second is an 8”x8” brick that will be medium gray and will contain the name and military insignia of the honoree. That brick will cost $150.
