GASTON – A Littleton teenager was arrested over the weekend for allegedly pointing a gun at a Northampton County law enforcement officer.

According to Captain Daryl Harmon of the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office, on Saturday around 3:15 a.m. Deputy Lawrence Johnson stopped a vehicle on Highway 46 in Gaston.

The vehicle was driven by Jerry Stovall, 17, of Phipps Drive in Littleton. Three other males were in the vehicle as well.

Johnson asked Stovall for his driver’s license and vehicle registration and when Stovall replied he didn’t have any the deputy asked Stovall to step out of the vehicle.

Harmon said once Stovall stepped out of the car he pulled a gun and pointed it at the deputy.

As Johnson backed away from the car, Stovall drove off at a high rate of speed.

Johnson pursued the vehicle, but soon lost sight of it.

With assistance from Deputy Greg Colson, Johnson and Colson soon spotted the vehicle on Jasper Jones Road outside of Gaston.

All four occupants of the vehicle fled on foot; one was detained.

Stovall turned himself in on Sunday and was charged with assault on law enforcement officer with a firearm and resisting a public officer.

His bond was set at $3,000 secured with an additional $1,000 cash bond, which stems from the latter charge.

After his first appearance in court on Monday his bond was increased to $20,000 secured, which he was released on.

Stovall’s next court date is set for March 15.
