Wreck leaves Colerain woman in serious condition

HARRELLSVILLE – A local woman is in serious condition after an accident here Saturday evening.

At approximately 6:20 p.m. Saturday, a vehicle operated by Joyce A. Askew of Wenonah, New Jersey was traveling north on R.P. 1002 (Quebec Road). According to North Carolina Highway Patrol Sgt. K.D. Owens, Askew’s vehicle ran off the right side of the road, overcorrected and ended up traveling of the left hand side and overturning. The vehicle came to rest on its top.

Askew had two passengers in her vehicle. They were Janice Freeman of Colerain and Fanni Epps of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Freeman was transported to Pitt Memorial Hospital via East Care’s helicopter and is listed in serious condition according to a spokesperson there.

Askew was charged with exceeding a safe speed after Trooper B. Allen investigated the accident.
