MURFREESBORO – A Thursday night accident near here left a utility pole and a traffic signal damaged.

According to a report filed by North Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper M.W. Warren, a one-vehicle accident just before 10 p.m. caused the damage.

The report said Lassie Carl Hall Jr. of Conway was traveling north on N.C. 11 and attempting to turn left and travel west on U.S. 158. Hall’s vehicle then traveled off the right shoulder of the roadway and struck a utility pole.

The result of the impact was damage to both the utility pole and to the traffic signal at the intersection.

Jason Davidson, an assistant Traffic Engineer, with the North Carolina Department of Transportation in Edenton, said his office received a call at approximately 11:15 p.m. that evening and someone immediately responded.

The call came from the Hertford County Emergency Services, according to Davidson.

He said the traffic light was back up and running by 12 noon on Friday. The cost for the repairs will be in the neighborhood of $6,500.

Hertford County Emergency Services Director Bobbi Piland said her agency responded to the scene and was there to assist with traffic control.

“We were there to help keep our citizens safe while the trooper did his investigation,” Piland said.

Hall was charged with a safe movement violation after investigation into the accident.
