Roland Faison Jr.

KELFORD n Roland Edgar “Buddy Boy Faison” Faison Jr., 61, a native of Bertie County, died January 13, 2007 at his residence.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mill Branch Baptist Church, Aulander, by the Rev. Milton Lee. Burial will be in the Wilders-Cherry Family Cemetery, Aulander. Wilder’s Funeral Home, Inc., is in charge.

Faison was a member of Beautiful Zion Baptist Church and a past employee of Perdue, Inc. He graduated from Southwestern High School in 1964.

Survivors include his wife, Ethel Clark Faison of Kelford; a daughter, Beverly Teresa Martin of Raleigh; two brothers, Cleveland Faison of Colerain and General Faison Sr. of Kelford; one sister, Flora Jean Faison of Kelford; and one grandchild.

Vassie Thompson

PINK HILL n Vassie Griggs Conner Thompson, 100, a native of Bertie County, and former resident of Beulaville, died January 16, 2007 at Duplin General Hospital, Kenansville. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Lee Roy Conner and Jack Thompson.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Aulander Cemetery, Aulander, by the Rev. Jerry Johnson. Visitation will be at the home of Allen and Lou Thigpen, 635 Sumner Rd., Pink Hill. Sayland Funeral Home, Maysville, with assistance by Massey Funeral Home, Aulander, is in charge.

Survivors include a daughter, Lou Thigpen of Pink Hill; a son, Wilbert “Willie” Conner of Sallisaw, OK; 15 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Lizzie M. Bass

MARGARETTSVILLE n Lizzie Mae Bass, 71, died January 17, 2007 at her home.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Breberan Baptist Church, Hwy. 35, near Boykins, Va. by the Rev. Charles Alvis. Burial will be in Severn Cemetery. Bridgers Funeral Home, Conway,

is in charge.

She was a member of Breberan Baptist Church.

Survivors include one brother, Haywood Bass Jr. of Chesterfield; and two sisters, Hazel Bass Peters of Portsmouth and Dorothy Bass Hargrave of Margarettsville.

Clarence J. Hathaway

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Clarence J. Hathaway, 53, a native of Gatesville, died January 15, 2007, at his residence.

Hathaway was a former dry wall layer.

Survivors include his two daughters, Rakeisha Dildy and Tamara Davis; mother, Mildred Arline Hathaway Sears; four sisters, Mary Savage, Carol Faye Thompson, Alice M. Hathaway and Bertha Pittman; and three brothers, Linwood E. Hathaway, David L. Hathaway and Junior Hathaway.

A funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in St. James COGIC, Portsmouth, by Elder Theodore Cutler. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake. Sarah D. Stevenson

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Sarah D. Stevenson, 97, a native of Seaboard, died January 15, 2007, in Sentara Nursing Center, Portsmouth. She was the widow of Willie Stevenson.

Mrs. Stevenson was a member of Third Baptist Church, Portsmouth.

She is survived by a brother, Simon Davis of Portsmouth.

A funeral was conducted Friday at Corprew Funeral Home, Portsmouth, by the Rev. Joseph A. Fleming. Burial was in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake.

Cola Williams

WOODLAND n Cola Octave Williams, died January 17, 2006 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Revelle Hill Baptist Church, Conway, by the Rev. Elijah Barnes. Burial will be in the family cemetery. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

She was a member of Menola Baptist Church, Woodland.

Survivors include his wife, Cheryl B. Williams of Woodland; three sons, Terry Williams of Murfreesboro, Adrian Williams of Conway and Cortirio Stephenson of Woodland; two daughters, Demetria Williams of Murfreesboro and Tikeshia Stephenson of Woodland; his mother, Christine V. Williams of Murfreesboro; three brothers, Cicero Williams Jr. of Newport News, Va., Russell Williams of Como and Willie Stephenson of Ahoskie; three sisters, Ethelle Williams of Murfreesboro, Brenda Williams of Brooklyn, NY, and Pamela King of Smithfield; and five grandchildren.

Moses Rodgers Jr.

SOUTH MILLS n Moses Rodgers Jr., 66, died January 14, 2007 at Guardian Care Nursing Home, Elizabeth City.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at United House of Prayer for All People, South Mills, by Bishop Gerald Gregory. Burial will be in New Burying Ground Cemetery, South Mills. Stallings Funeral Home, Elizabeth City, is in charge.

Survivors include her wife Wyoming Edith Rodgers; two daughters, Amy Outlaw of Elizabeth City and Angela Creecy Rodgers of South Mills; one son, Taurus Moses Rodgers of Elizabeth City; one sister, Louise Ann Rodgers of Elizabeth City; one brother, William McKinley Rodgers of Elizabeth City; and six grandchildren.

Andralette Walker

HERTFORD n Andralette Walker, 41, died January 11, 2007 at Albemarle Hospital, Elizabeth City.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Hertford, by the Rev. Eason. Burial will be Cedarwood Cemetery, Hertford. Stallings Funeral Chapel, Hertford, is in charge.

Survivors include her husband, James U. Walker; two daughters, LaShonda L. Felton and Tabitha Y. Felton, both of Hertford; two sons, Jamie D. Walker and Joshua E. Felton, both of Hertford; her mother, Mittie Lu Foster; four sisters, Vickie Felton, Johnetta F. White, Belinda Lane and Andrea Lane; stepsisters, April, Zita and Netta; one brother, Kent Felton; one stepbrothers, Anthony, Donnell, Andrew Lane Jr., and Dennis Cowell; and one grandchild.

Norma Rhea

WINDSOR n Mrs. Norma Pearce Rhea, age 62, of Windsor, NC, died January 17, 2007 at her home.

Mrs. Rhea was born May 14, 1944, in Bertie County, NC, the daughter of the late James E. Pearce and Marie Matthews Pearce.

A memorial service will be held, Saturday, January 20, 2007, at 4:00 PM at Massey Funeral Home in Aulander, NC with Rev. Steve Farmer officiating.

Survivors include her husband, Louis Rhea; daughters, Judy Lewis, Teresa Craig, Norma Jean Haney and Nancy Kay Smith and husband, Richard; two sons, Timothy Rhea and Mike Rhea; her sister, Alice Faye Jones; her brothers, Billy Pearce and James Pearce; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Tom C. Hoggard

WINDSOR n Tom C. “T.C.” Hoggard, 78, died January 18, 2007 at his home.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday at Speller Chapel Church of Christ. Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. Saturday at Gilliam Funeral Home. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Windsor.

Ethel C. Hall

MERRY HILL n Ethel C. Hall, 77, died January 15, 2007 at her home.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Peterson Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Gilliam Funeral Home is in charge.

Richard Davis

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Richard Davis, a native of Jackson, died January 17, 2007 in Lanham, MD.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy M. Davis; and his sister, Jonnie Mae Winborne of Portsmouth; four sons and one daughter: Richard Davis Jr. and Melvin J. Davis, both of Harrisburg, Pa., Cheryl V. Edwards of Portsmouth, Kimara K. Davis of Richmond, Va., and Kevin L. Davis of Lanham, Md.; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Davis retired from the U.S. Army in 1971 with more than 20 years of service. He received a B.S. degree from Norfolk State University in electronics in addition to multiple studies in a variety of math and science disciplines. He retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Portsmouth, in 1989.

Floyd Goodwin

SUFFOLK, Va. – Floyd &uot;Skinny&uot; Goodwin, 74, a native of Gates County, died January 17, 2007.

Goodwin was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran having served during the Korean War. In 1995, he retired as area supervisor for Colombia Gas System. He attended Bethlehem Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Sue Powell Goodwin; a daughter, Karen G. Bradley; a son, Floyd Byron Goodwin, all of Suffolk; and sisters, Eva Modlin of Sunbury and Doris Jean Jackson of Virginia Beach.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday Bethlehem Christian Church by the Rev. Jonathan Palmer. Eastern Star rites will be held during the service. BRANCHVILLE, Va. – Willie A. Joyner Jr., died January 16, 2007.

A funeral will be conduced at noon Saturday in Galilee Baptist Church. Faison’s Funeral Home, Seaboard, is in charge.

William T. Pugh

RALEIGH – William Thomas Pugh, 54, died January 15, 2007.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Mount Olive Baptist Church, Windsor. Cherry’s Funeral Home is in charge.

Survivors include his children, Christopher, Ronald and Shalia Pugh; a stepson, Kasimu Tucker; his mother, Joanna Pugh-Holley; a sister, Mary Pugh-Bailey; a brother, Charles Pugh II; and one granddaughter.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, Windsor, under the care of Cherry’s Funeral Home and Chapel, Windsor. Interment will be in the Harmon family cemetery. Haywood Funeral, Inc., 2415 S. Wilmington St., Raleigh, is in charge.
