Northeast sweeps

LASKER n Northeast Academy swept a pair of varsity outing here Thursday night.

The varsity boys defeated Norlina Christian School 70-59 while the Lady Eagles knocked off the same team 43-29.

In the varsity boy’s contest, it was the sharpshooting of Ryan Davis that pushed the Eagles to 5-10 on the season.

Davis hit 20 points on the night, one of four Eagles in double figures for the evening. Drew Pinnix checked in with 17 points while Jay Baugham had 15 and Hunter Deloatch added 11 points.

Rounding out the scoring for Northeast was John Pope (5) and Josh Jenkins (2).

The Eagles led 12-10 after one quarter and then found themselves behind 35-27 at the half. By the end of the third quarter, Northeast was had evened the score at 49-all.

In the varsity girl’s contest, the Lady Eagles got 12 points from LeAnn Barnes while having a total of nine players score.

After leading 13-7 after one quarter, Northeast took a 26-10 lead by the intermission. They led 38-21 by the end of the third quarter.

Cameron Flythe and Jeanie Hargrave had six points while Betty Edwards had five and Brittany Wade added four.

Rounding out the scoring were Caroline Carrothers (3), Callie Burgess (3), Joanna Boone (2) and London Harrell (2).

In the junior varsity boys game, Norlina defeated Northeast 53-39.

Judd Smith led Northeast with 15 points.

Northeast was within four (24-20) at the half, but scored just one point in the third quarter as they suffered the defeat.
