Shirley Todd Clifton

CHESAPEAKE, Va. – Shirley Todd Clifton, 75, a native of Ahoskie, died December 27, 2006.

Survivors include her husband, Raymond &uot;Marvin&uot; Clifton; two daughters, Deborah Lancaster of New Bern, and Sondra Beatty of Chesapeake; a son, Ray Clifton Jr. of Virginia Beach; her mother, Grover Mae White Todd; a brother, Lewis Todd of Virginia Beach; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in Graham Funeral Home, Greenbrier Chapel, 1112 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake, by the Rev. John Wolford. Burial will be in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. Gloria Haithcoatch-Faison

SEABOARD – Sylvia A. Haithcoatch of Seaboard, died December 21, 2006, and her sister, Gloria M. Haithcoatch-Faison of Franklin, Va., died December 25, 2006.

A joint funeral was conducted Friday in Mount Zion Baptist Church, Margarettsville. Faison Funeral Home, Seaboard, was in charge.

Donte J. Longshore

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Donte J. Longshore, 16, a native of Portsmouth, died December 23, 2006, at his home.

Longshore attended Woodrow Wilson High School.

Survivors include his father, Clifton Longshore; a sister, Sherita; a brother, Clifton III; and grandparents, H. Thomas &uot;BA&uot; Green and Clifton and Roxanne Longshore.

A funeral was held Friday at in Corprew Funeral Home, Portsmouth chapel, by the Rev. Dr. Linwood Boone. Burial was in the Eure Family Cemetery, Gate.

John A. Parker

NORFOLK, Va. n John A. Parker, 70, formerly of Windsor, December 26, 2006.

A funeral will be conducted at noon Saturday at

Mt. Ararat Baptist Church, Windsor. Burial will be in the Outlaw family cemetery. Gilliam Funeral Home, Windsor, is in charge.

Daniel S. Mittlestadt

CORAPEAKE n Daniel Scott Middlestadt, 48, a native of Las Vegas, NV, and formerly of Corapeake, died December 21, 2006 at West Alabama.

A family gathering was held Saturday at Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville.

Mittlestadt retired in 1993 as a Senior Chief with the US Navy after more than 18 years of service and for the past eight years was the owner of D & D Hauling. He was a Methodist by faith.

Survivors include his wife, Connie Liverman Mittlestadt; two sons, Keith Scott Chapin and Johnathan E. Mittlestadt, both of Virginia Beach; a stepson, Willie Liverman of Windsor, NC; a sister, Gwen Chaney of Windsor; and two brothers, Billy Mittlestadt of Chesapeake and Jeffery Mittlestadt of Dyersburg.

Maude G. Baldwin

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. n Maude G. Baldwin, 79, a native of Sunbury, died December 8, 2006. She was the widow of Duane Burt Baldwin Sr.

A funeral was conducted December 13, 2006 at Princess Anne Plaza United Methodist Church by the Rev. Angelito Samson. A graveside service was conducted Tuesday at Saint Peter’s Episcopal Church Cemetery in Sunbury. Holloman-Brown Funeral Home Lynnhaven Chapel is in charge. Mrs. Baldwin was a member of Princess Anne Plaza United Methodist Church and its United Methodist Women.

Survivors include a son, Duane Burt Baldwin Jr.; and a grandson.

Alice G. Bazemore

CHESAPEAKE, Va. – Alice Gilliam Bazemore, 79, a native of Lewiston, died December 20, 2006.

Mrs. Bazemore was a member of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church Nursing Ministry and Senior Missionary, Portsmouth.

Survivors include one daughter, Betty Jean Moore; sisters, Louise Askew and Nancy Bowman; one brother, Thomas Gilliam; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

A funeral was conducted Tuesday at St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, Portsmouth, by the Rev. Dr. Curtis E. Edmonds Sr. Burial will be in the Thompson family cemetery, Lewiston. Wilder’s Funeral Home, Inc., Aulander, and Corprew Funeral Home, Portsmouth, was in charge.

Katherine J. Jenkins

MURFREESBORO n Katherine Johnson “Ching” Jenkins, 80, died December 27, 2006 at Roanoke Chowan Hospital. Born in Speed in Edgecombe County, N.C., and reared in Franklin, VA, she was a daughter of the late William Emmett and Katherine Langston Johnson. She was a member of Murfreesboro Baptist Church and a former member of the Murfreesboro Woman’s Club.

Left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Kathy J. Davenport and husband, Steve of Burgaw, NC and Nancy J. Lyles of High Point, NC; four grandchildren, Stacy and Erica Lyles and Kate and Jenks Miller, and a sister-in-law, Mildred C. Johnson of Franklin; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Lois “Doodle” Thornton and two brothers, William E. “Billy” Johnson, Jr. and Robert E. “Bobby” Johnson.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Poplar Spring Cemetery, Franklin, followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. at Murfreesboro Baptist Church. The Rev. Lee Canipe will be officiant. Memorials may be made to the Murfreesboro Baptist Church, American Heart Association, or the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, is assisting the family.

Rosa B. Myers

WINDSOR n Rosa Bazemore Myers, 97, a native of Bertie County, died December 28, 2006 in the Brian Center. She was the widow of Francis Durwood Myers.

A graveside funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Edgewood Cemetery by the Rev. Jack Byrd. The family will receive friends from the home of Joann Freeman, 301 Cooper Ave., Windsor. Memorial gifts may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation. Walker Funeral Home is in charge.

Mrs. Myers had retired from Bertie Memorial Hospital as a nurse and was a member of Cashie Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Joann Myers Freeman of Windsor; and seven grandchildren.

Ryland H. Shaw Sr.

MOUNT OLIVE n Ryland H. “Mr. Ryland” Shaw Sr., 81, a native of Northampton County, died December 25, 2006.

Shaw attended Gaston High School and following his graduation he enlisted in the United States Army where he served for three years in the South Pacific. He and his brother purchased Glenn & Martin Drug Company in Mount Olive.

Survivors include his wife, Marie H. Shaw of the home; a brother, Albert McCoy Shaw of Augusta, Ga.; a sister, Evelyn S. Newton of Chapel Hill; a son, Ryland H. Shaw Jr. of La Grange; and three grandchildren.

A funeral was conducted Friday at Tyndall Funeral Home, Mount Olive. Burial was in Wayne Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Finton B. Ferguson

MURFREESBORO – Finton Blount Ferguson, 88, died December 29, 2006 at Roanoke Chowan Hospital.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Carolyn Whitaker

RICH SQUARE n Carolyn Marie P. Riddick, 64, a native of Rich Square, died December 26, 2006 at Pitt Memorial Hospital.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Branches Baptist Church, Rich Square, by the Rev. Tony Flood. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A wake will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Branches Baptist Church. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, submitted information. Wood Bridge Funeral Home is in charge.

Survivors include her children, Robert Whitaker, Richard Whitaker, Dianne Whitaker, Lora Whitaker and Demeen Whitaker; sisters and brothers, Kilbert Pierce, Isaac Bowser, Anthony Bowser, Robert Pierce, Geraldine Moore, Evelyn Shoulders, Christine Artis and Lula Mae Artis.
