LASKER – Northeast dominated Pungo Christian Academy as they cruised to a 64-47 victory Tuesday night.

The Eagles shot 5-of-8 from three point range in the first quarter, including three treys from Drew Pinnix, as they took a 22-9 lead in the first.

&uot;I’m proud of the way we came out in the first quarter,&uot; said Eagles head coach John Brown.

&uot;We’ve been falling behind early in games and so we’ve been stressing the need to come out ready to play.&uot;

Josh Jenkins took Pinnix’s pass to the hoop for two to start the second quarter.

Daniel Oliver scored a Pungo bucket, but Pinnix answered with a deuce.

Oliver hit front end of a pair of foul shots to cut the Eagles lead to 14 (26-12).

Hunter Deloatch scored back-to-back baskets and Pinnix followed with a three as the Eagles extended their lead to 21 (33-12).

Oliver failed to convert a three-point play and Northeast took the ball up the court, with Jenkins scoring in the paint.

Oliver and Dustin Lathan made baskets to end the first half with the Eagles leading 35-18.

Pungo scored a basket and converted a three-point play to cut the lead to 12 (35-23) at the top of the third.

After a Pinnix foul shot, Jay Baugham hit four consecutive baskets.

Brodie Harrell scored on the inbounds and Ryan Davis hit a three as Northeast extended their lead to 28 (51-23).

Kyle Smithwick’s basket ended the Eagles’ 16-point scoring run.

Smithwick scored another bucket and Oliver added two more as the Raiders closed within 20, 51-31, going into the fourth.

Pungo pulled within 11 (56-45) with 3:03 remaining.

Davis scored two buckets and a pair of free throws and Deloatch added two foul shots at the Eagles extended their lead to 19 (64-45).

Oliver scored a basket in the final minute but it wasn’t enough as the Eagles took the win, 64-47.

Pinnix led Northeast with 16 points, including four three-pointers, and eight assists.

Davis followed with 12 points.

&uot;In the third they had a little run but we pulled together and got some easy layups,&uot; Brown said. &uot;Our big concern is that we need to rebound better and we’re not getting back quick enough on defense.

&uot;It was a good win and good to let everyone get playing time,&uot; he closed.

The Eagles will play in the Christmas tournament at Halifax Academy on December 28.
