POWELLSVILLE – A minor injury occurred here Wednesday night when a man was struck by a passing vehicle.

According to Sgt. J.T. Lane of the North Carolina Highway Patrol, a pedestrian traveling south on U.S. 13 was struck in the arm by the passing vehicle.

“A Bertie County Deputy was traveling south on U.S. 13 and began passing another vehicle,” Sgt. Lane said. “A pedestrian was traveling south in the northbound lane and the left side mirror struck the pedestrian’s right arm.”

Bertie County Deputy Johnny Edward Hoggard was in his patrol car when the pedestrian was struck. He was not charged in the incident.

The pedestrian was Keith Valentine of 2731 U.S. 13 North, Ahoskie. He was transported by Askewville EMS to Bertie Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released.
