AHOSKIE – Lawrence Academy didn’t take long to get first-year coach Tommy Tripp his first varsity win.

The Warriors opened the first night of the Lt. Nick Brantley Scholarship Tournament with a convincing 89-10 win over Ahoskie Christian School to start the season 1-0.

Senior Alex Hodges led Lawrence with 14 points. He was one of six players in double-digits for the fourth-seeded Warriors.

Judd Whitehead had 11 for Lawrence while Michael Cseko had 10 in his varsity debut. Also scoring 10 were Gray Harrell, Holden Ratzlaff and Daniel Oliver.

Lawrence started the contest by scoring the first 23 points over more than one quarter.

Cseko got LA’s first basket and was quickly followed by scores from Whitehead, Harrell and Hodges.

With Tripp using all 15 players on his roster, 11 of them scored during the contest.

Ahoskie’s first score came from the free throw line when Josh Rawls hit a pair of free throws with 6:59 to play in the second quarter.

ACS didn’t score again until the 5:53 mark of the third when Omari Mitchell buried a three-pointer and was followed by a hoop from Josh White.

By that point, the Warriors had built a 57-7 lead and cruised to the victory.

Ahoskie’s last score came with five seconds to play when Jerome Meadows hit a triple.

Lawrence advanced to tonight’s portion of the tournament where they meet number one seed Ridgecroft School in the tournament’s final game of the night.
