GATESVILLE – Ed Webb and David Brown breathed a sigh of relief late Tuesday night.

The two Gates County incumbent politicians n Webb as Sheriff and Brown as a member of the county’s board of commissioners n each won reelection on Tuesday as they defeated a pair of write-in challengers.

In the Sheriff’s race, Webb captured 76 percent of the vote in his win over Wendy Noble. Webb, who earned his third term as the county’s top law enforcement officer, was named on 1,782 ballots while Noble received 572 votes.

Brown, the incumbent county commissioner representing District 1, also experienced little trouble in his quest for another four-year term as he captured 83 percent of the vote to defeat write-in challenger Shari Wilson, 1,731-to-364.

All vote totals are unofficial.

Two other Gates County Commissioners also earned four-year terms as Wade Howell Askew (District 2) and Kenneth Jernigan (District 3) ran unopposed. Askew garnered 2,022 votes while Jernigan was named on 2,006 ballots.

Gates County Clerk of Court Nell F. Wiggins was also unopposed. She won reelection with 1,993 votes.

Ed Miller (1,940 votes) and Rick Morgan (1,885) won seats on the Gates County Soil and Water Conservation District’s Board of Supervisors.

Gates County voters also favored District Attorney Frank R. Parrish (1,993 votes) as well as District Court judges J.C. Cole (1,866) and Christopher Bean (1,626).

In a contested District Court Judge race, the majority of Gates County voters supported Eula E. Reid (1,163) over John J. Flora III (948).
