Teen faces felony charges

WINTON – A Murfreesboro teen is facing several felony charges after a traffic stop Sunday night.

Hertford County Sheriff Juan Vaughan confirmed that at 11 p.m. Sunday, law enforcement officers were conducting a driver’s license check in Winton near the Thad Eure Bridge when they stopped a vehicle operated by Corey Ray Tyree, 17, of 364 Franklin Dr. Murfreesboro.

After receiving permission to search the vehicle which Tyree was operating, officers found marijuana, drug paraphernalia and weapons.

&uot;Mr. Tyree was in possession of marijuana, a set of scales and rolling papers&uot;, Vaughan said. &uot;He also had a butterfly knife and a set of brass knuckles.&uot;

Tyree was arrested and taken to the Hertford County Jail where he was charged with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to sell and deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a concealed weapon.

Tyree, a student at Chowan University, was placed under a $25,000 secured bond.

His first court appearance was Tuesday Oct. 31.

Vaughan wanted to commend the efforts of his officers.

&uot;Lt. Marty Davis, Sgt. Will Liverman and Deputy Tom Helms were instrumental in the arrest of this individual,&uot; Vaughan said. &uot;I want to thank them for their work in slowing down drug trafficking in Hertford County.&uot;
