Aleene Bolton

RICH SQUARE – Aleene Rae “Judy” Bolton, 74, died October 28, 2006 at the Roanoke Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie.

Survivors include her husband, Maxie L. Bolton of the home, two daughters, Wanda W. Taylor of Jacksonville, FL and Deborah L. Ortiz of Morristown, TN, three sons, Alfred L. Threatt of Atlanta, GA, Charles N. Threatt of Rich Square and Bobby E. Bolton of Rich Square, three sisters, Gracie O’Mary of Tarboro, Francis Elliot of Rocky Mount and Christine Garner of Roanoke Rapids; one brother, George D. O’Mary of Dothan, AL; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Chapel of Sykes Funeral Service in Rich Square with the Rev. Bob Rogers.

Burial will be at the Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Rich Square.

The family will receive friends at Sykes Funeral Service on Wednesday at 12:30 P.M. prior to the funeral service.

James Martin

ROANOKE RAPIDS n James Oliver Martin, 66, died October 27, 2006 at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete. H.D. Pope Funeral Home, Roanoke Rapids, is in charge.

Alton Bazemore

AHOSKIE n Alton Dail Bazemore, 81, a native of Bertie County, died October 27, 2006 at his home.

A funeral was conducted Monday at Askewville Assembly of God by the Rev. R.O. Denton Jr., the Rev. R.O. Denton Sr., and the Rev. Harmon. Burial was in Edgewood Cemetery, Windsor. Memorial gifts may be made to the Askewville Rescue Squad, c/o Allen White, 510 Pocosin Road, Windsor, NC 27983. Walker Funeral Home, Windsor, was in charge.

Bazemore was a farmer. He was a member of Askewville Assembly of God and a charter member of both Obie White and Charles Hunting Clubs.

Survivors include his wife, Nadine Hill Bazemore of Ahoskie; a son, Dail Bazemore of Ahoskie; a brother, Joseph A. Bazemore of Windsor; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Edna Boone

ROCKY MOUNT- Pastor Edna Ruth Boone, 66, died October 24, 2006.

A funeral will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Christ Cathedral Church, Fayetteville. A visitation will be held from 1 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the church. On Friday, November 3 a funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church, Rocky Mount. A visitation will be conducted from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at H.D. Pope Funeral Home, Rocky Mount.

Otis R. Jones

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Otis R. Jones, 92, a native of Bertie County, died October 24, 2006 at his son’s residence.

He was the widower of Carrie Jones.

Jones retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. His second occupation was that of a barber. Otis was a former member of Fourth Baptist Church, Portsmouth, and later joined the New First Baptist Church, Taylorsville, Portsmouth.

Survivors include a son, Cecil Jones of Portsmouth; two daughters, Gloria Phoenix of Greensboro and Barbara Clark of Rockville, Md.; four granddaughters; five great-grandchildren.

A funeral was conducted. Monday in The New First Baptist Church, Taylorsville, Portsmouth, by the Rev. Marcus D. Brown. Burial was in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Portsmouth. Corprew Funeral Home was in charge.

Mamie Sanderlin

WINDSOR n Mamie Kirkland Sanderlin, 79,a native of Jessup, GA, died October 28, 2006 at her home.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Edgewood Baptist Church by the Rev. Chris Lee. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery. Walker Funeral Home, Windsor, is in charge. Memorial gifts may be made to either Edgewood Baptist Church Building Fund, 348 13 N. Windsor, NC 27983 or to University Hospital Hospice, P.O. Box 272, Ahoskie, NC 27910.

Mrs. Sanderlin attended Edgewood Baptist Church and was a retired nurses assistant at Bertie Memorial Hospital.

Survivors include three daughters, Jean S. Sapp of Southport, FL, and Gayle S. Russell and Joy S. Demofonte, both of Windsor; three sons, Russell Sanderlin of Charlotte, Larry Sanderlin of Windsor and Wayne Sanderlin of Ararat; two sisters, Lula Mae Thorpe and Christine Brewer, both of Jessup; three brothers, Clarence Kirkland of Odom, Leroy Kirkland and Bill Kirkland, both of Jessup; 17 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

Harold T. Cox

GATES – A graveside service for Harold T. &uot;Bo&uot; Cox was conducted Monday in Olive Branch Cemetery.

Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, was in charge.

Doris M. McMurren

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Doris Mitchell McMurren, a native of Princess Anne County, died October 27, 2006, in Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital. She was the widow of William D. McMurren Sr.

Mrs. McMurren was a member of St. Stephens COGIC, Virginia Beach, and its hospitality ministry. Survivors include six daughters, Sharon T. Nichols, Cynthia Macer, Ebony Duston and Christine Sabir, all of Virginia Beach, Dawn McMurren of Norfolk and Mozella McCoy Flowers of Jackson; one son, Todd R. Nichols of Virginia Beach; her mother, Blanch F. Mitchell of Virginia Beach; five sisters, Lillian, Evelyn, Barbara, Diane and Korvette, all of Virginia Beach; four brothers, Elijah, Wilford, Terry and Edward; 25 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Stephens COGIC with Bishop Ted Thomas Sr. Interment will be in Saints Rest Cemetery, Virginia Beach. Community Funeral Home, Virginia Beach Chapel, is in charge.

E.W. Jernigan Sr.

EDENTON n Edward Wayne Jernigan Sr., 61, a native of Chowan County, died October 28, 2006 at his daughter’s home in Blounts Creek.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, by the Rev. Thomas Biggs. Burial will be in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends may join the family from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home and all other times at the home of his brother, Don Jernigan, 703 Happy Homes Road, Tyner.

Jernigan retired from the forestry division of Weyerhauser and was a member of Center Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include his daughters, Helen Faye Jernigan of Blounts Creek and Donna Michelle Sawyer of Edenton; his son, Edward Wayne Jernigan Jr. of Williamston; two sisters, Sylvia Kight of Sunbury and Debbie Williams of Edenton; two brothers, Don Jernigan of Tyner and Jerry Jernigan of Duffield, Va.; and six grandchildren.

Terrence Rascoe Jr.

NORFOLK, Va. – Terrence Roscoe, Jr.,

13 days old, infant son of Terrence and Nickie Hall Rascoe Sr., died October 28, 2006 at Children’s Hospital of King’s Daughters, Norfolk, VA.

He was born in Norfolk, VA.

Other survivors include one sister, Shadae Roscoe of Gatesville; his maternal grandparents, Ralph and Ellen Roscoe, also of Gatesville; his paternal grandmother, Janet Hall of Como;

and great- grandmother, Odessa Roscoe of Gatesville.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Hunter’s Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie.
