Fannie Clark

RICH SQUARE – Fannie Clark, 86 of Rich Square died September 9, 2006 at Autumn Care of Roanoke Valley Nursing Home, Rich Square.

She was born on November 26, 1919 in Northampton County.

She was a member of First Baptist Church Rich Square.

She was retired from Autumn Care of Roanoke Valley as a Nurse’s Aide.

Survivors include a son, Paul Bishop of Newark, NJ; one brother, Maxwell Bishop of Newark, NJ; one sister, Claretta Bishop Porter of Irvington, NJ; five grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 16 at First Baptist Church of Rich Square.

Burial will be held in the Church Cemetery.

Elizabeth Rascoe

MERRY HILL n Elizabeth Lena Mayo Rascoe, 70, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2006 at her residence.

A native of Bertie County, Rascoe was a retired poultry worker.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 17 at Oxley Hill Baptist Church, Merry Hill, with Pastor Vonner Horton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Ricky Moore

COLERAIN n Ricky “Rick” Moore, 46, of Colerain died Sept. 10, 2006 at Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville.

Moore, a native of Bertie County, was a member of Greater Wynns Grove Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, trustee financial officer and a member of the SWAT team.

A graduate of Bertie High School, Moore went on to serve his country from 1982-88 as a Lance Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps.

He graduated from barber school as a Master Barber, attended Martin Community College and was co-owner of Moores Logging Company.

Survivors include his stepmother, Hazel D. Moore; a stepson, Kareem McAlister of Fayetteville; and five sisters, Juliet Lee of Colerain, Jackie Carey of Largo, Md., Beverly Moore of Mays Landing, NJ, Jovita Gatling of Upper Marlboro, Md. and LaSonya Tobias of Washington, DC.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 17 at Greater Wynns Grove Baptist Church with Bishop Thomas E. Lee officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Heber C. Eason

SUNBURY – Heber Cecil Eason Sr., 96, of Acorn Hill Road died Sept. 13, 2006 in Rex Healthcare, Raleigh.

Eason was born in Gates County and was the son of the late Alfred and Maude Jones Eason. After retiring from Norfolk Naval Shipyard, he was employed with the Gates County Rescue Squad for a number of years and was a lifelong member of Sandy Cross Baptist Church.

Surviving are his son, Heber C. Eason Jr. of Raleigh; two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in Sandy Cross Baptist Church by the Rev. E. Vernon Gilmer Jr. Immediately following the service, the family will receive friends in the social hall of the church.

A private burial will be held at Damascus Cemetery in Sunbury.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Sandy Cross Baptist Church, Hobbsville, NC 27946 or to the Gates County Rescue Squad, Gatesville, NC 27938.

Victoria L. Jolla

CHARLOTTE – Mrs. Victoria L. Jolla was born August 27, 1922 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Lawrence, in Winton, North Carolina. She departed this life on September 11, 2006, at 5:30 p.m. at the Hunter Woods Nursing and Rehabilitation Home, Charlotte, North Carolina. She was 84 years old.

She was baptized at an early age at the South Winton Baptist Church. She married in Norfolk, Virginia to her late husband, William Bernard Jolla, on August 25, 1947. After holy Matrimony they moved to New York.

She was a successful entrepreneur in the restaurant and dry cleaning/laundry business.

After retiring they moved to Charlotte, North Carolina to be near their son, daughter-in law and grandchildren, in 1985.

She was a very friendly, giving and loving person. She enjoyed cooking, walking, going to church, crossword puzzles and pets.

She leaves to cherish her memories, a loving son, Charles V. Jolla of Charlotte, North Carolina; a daughter in-law, Dotty B. Jolla of Charlotte, North Carolina; two grand daughters, Jovita K. Jolla and Alicia V. Jolla of Charlotte, North Carolina; a grandson, Jacques G. Jolla of Winston Salem, North Carolina; a Sister in-law, Helen Palmer

of Woodville, Mississippi, and a host of great nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends.

A funeral service was held Friday, Sept. 15 at New St. John Baptist Church in Charlotte.

Arkemion Dolberry

GREENVILLE n Arkemion Jeremiah Dolberry, 3 weeks, died September 13, 2006 at Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville.

He is survived by his parents, Devin Dolberry and Aleisha Payton, both of Hamilton; and grandparents, Rev. Donald M. Dolberry, Deborah Dolberry, Denise Payton and Norman West.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Sept. 14 at Wilder’s Funeral Home Chapel in Aulander with the Rev. Ronald M. Dolberry presiding. Burial followed in the Wilders-Cherry Family Cemetery, Aulander.

Lessie Whitehead

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Lessie Whitehead, 74, of Thalia Trace Drive passed away Sept. 9, 2006.

She was a native of Murfreesboro and a retired farm worker.

Whitehead was a member of Mount Gilleon Baptist Church in Handson, Va. She was the widow of Raymond Whitehead and was also predeceased by her parents, James and Cherry Dodson.

Survivors include four daughters, Rose Morris, Bessie Dodson, Shirley Reese and Hope Porter; two sisters, Rosa Holloman and Lilly Mae Dodson; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A funeral was held Thursday, Sept. 14 at New Jerusalem Church of God in Christ with Bishop Barnett K. Thoroughgood presiding. Interment followed in Betty Jones Memorial Park.

Alma S. Cain

CHESAPEAKE, Va. – Alma Self Cain, 56, formerly of Powellsville, passed away in her residence Sept. 12, 2006.

She was born in Chesapeake and was the daughter of the late Calvin and Gertie Self.

She is survived by three daughters, Tammie Christensen, Karen Carrico and Kristin Smith; two sisters, Carolyn Davis and Patricia Goodwin; one brother, Eugene Self; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A funeral will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by the Rev. David Nichols. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service and at 2301 Springdale Road immediately following the service.

At Ms. Cain’s request, cremation will follow the service with no graveside services and the family requests that any floral arrangements should be of such that can be carried to the home.

Yvonne Pollard

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. n Yvonne Pollard of Newport News, Va. died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2006 at her residence.

She is survived by two daughters, Toya Pollard of Newport News and Catherine Hammond of Columbia, Mo.; her mother, Sally Speller of Hampton, Va.; and three brothers, James Pope and John Pope, both of Detroit, Mich. and Larry Pope of Newport News.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 18 at the Reynolds Funeral Home Chapel in Ahoskie. Interment will be in the Pope Family Cemetery, Cofield.
