HAMPTON, Va. n Beulah Mae Canady, 92, a native of Northampton County, died September 6, 2006 at Riverside Convalescent Center, Hampton.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Hertford County Undertakers Chapel, Winton. Burial will be in the Joyner family cemetery, located in Murfreesboro on Vaughan Town Road.

A public viewing will be held from 12 to 8 p.m. Saturday.

Survivors in four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. n Carolyn Musha Hutcherson, 61, of San Bernardino, Calif., formerly of Murfreesboro, NC, died Friday, September 1, 2006 at her residence.

She is survived by a son, Sean Preston Hutcherson and his wife, Carla, of Roanoke Rapids, NC; a sister, Margaret Musha Martin of Murfreesboro; two brothers, Connie Mack Musha of Murfreesboro and Nelson E. “Neddy” Musha of Buenos Aires, Argentina; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation to the charity of one’s choice.

WELDON n Susan Kaye “Nee’” Blacknell, 43, died September 5, 2006 at Halifax Regional Medical Center, Roanoke Rapids.

WINDSOR n Clarine F. Speller, 79, died September 7, 2006 at her residence.

ROCKY MOUNT n Lillian Perry Felton, 85, died September 4, 2006 at Nash Grove Manor.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Metropolitan Baptist Church. Burial will be in Stoney Creek Cemetery. H.D. Pope Funeral Home, Rocky Mount, is in charge.

Edith M. Moore

WINDSOR n Edith Mizelle Moore, 89, a native of Dolton, Ala., died September 7, 2006 at Bertie Memorial Hospital. She was the widow of Joseph Archie Moore.

Interment will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Edgewood Cemetery, Windsor. Memorial services will follow interment on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Windsor United Methodist Church by the Rev. David Woolsey and the Rev. Everett Grover. The family will receive friends after the memorial service at Windsor United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Windsor United Methodist Church. Walker Funeral Home, Windsor, is in charge.

Mrs. Moore worked as a nursing assistant with Bertie Memorial Hospital, a homemaker and was a member of Windsor United Methodist Church. She was also a member of The Windsor Women’s Club.

Survivors include one daughter, Etta Mae Moore House of Plymouth; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Prince Smallwood Jr.

NORFOLK, Va. – Prince “Goodboy”, “Buddyrow,” Smallwood Jr., 72, a native of Windsor, September 5, 2006, in a local hospital.

Smallwood worked for the City of Norfolk’s wastewater department for 36 years.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Smallwood; three children, Lillie Smallwood, Alfred Smallwood and Ramona Moore; five sisters, Delores Bond, Janie Watkins, Marjorie Santiago, Janice Wilkins and Liz Scarborough; a brother, James Smallwood; and three grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Indian Woods Missionary Baptist Church, 2330 Indian Woods Road, Windsor. Graves Funeral Home is in charge.

Kimberly M. Gamble

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Kimberly Marcilla Gamble, a native of Washington, D.C., died

September 3, 2006.

Mrs. Gamble was employed with Trader Publishing Co. and Mary Magazine.

Survivors include her husband, Corey Gamble Sr. of Newport News; daughter, Chela Gadson of Chesapeake; son, Corey Gamble Jr. of Newport News; father, William Baker of Gaston; sister, Carla Gaston; one granddaughter; and one great-grandchild.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at New Mount Olive Baptist Church by Pastor Randolf Rylander. Nicholson-Cummings Funeral Home, 4304 Victoria Blvd., Hampton, is in charge.

Evora G. Rhodes

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Evora Gaynell Rhodes, 90, a native of Colerain, died September 4, 2006. She was the widow of John William Rhodes.

She is survived by nephew.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Kellum Funeral Home, Rosewood Chapel. A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Henry Shores

AULANDER n Henry Irvin Shores, 81, died September 7, 2006 at his residence. He was the widower of Katherine Lassiter Shores.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Millennium Holiness Church by the Rev. Raymond Porter. Burial will be in Job Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Massey Funeral Home, Aulander is in charge.

Shores served as a special deputy for Hertford County Sheriff’s Department for 30 years. He was a member of Millennium Pentecostal Holiness Church, superintendent of Sunday school and the first fire chief and one of the founders of Millennium Fire Department.

Survivors include a son, Donald E. Shores of Aulander; a daughter, Donna Marie Woodford of Warren, Ohio; two sisters, Annette S. Blowe and Becky S. Blowe, three brothers, Melvin Shores, Haywood Shores and Jessie Shores, all of Aulander; and four grandchildren.

Betty Freeman

HARRELLSVILLE Betty Jane “Bet” Freeman, 60, a native of Hertford County, died September 7, 2006 at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

She last worked at Perdue Inc. in the Deboning Department and was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church, Colerain.

Survivors include two sons, Melvin Freeman Sr. and Alexander Freeman, both of Harrellsville; a daughter, Brenda Freeman Askew of Windsor; three brothers, Neal Freeman of Colerain, Willie Outlaw Sr. and Bradford Thompson Jr., both of Powellsville; three sisters, Nora Douglas of Harrellsville, Barbara Lassiter Cooper of Windsor and Gladys Thompson of Hartford, Conn.; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Zion Hill Baptist Church, Colerain, by the Rev. Nathaniel Thompson. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Wilder’s Funeral Home, Inc., Aulander, is in charge.
