Herman E. Early Sr.

FRANKLIN, VA – Herman Elton Early Sr., 59, a native of Bertie County, died September 3, 2006, at his home.

Early was a member of Sycamore Baptist Church, Franklin.

He was an Air Force veteran and served during the Vietnam Conflict, and was retired as a long distance trucker driver.

Survivors include his sons, Herman Elton Early Jr. and Gregory Scott Early, both of Franklin; two sisters, Shirley Mae Jones of Powellsville and Ruby Ann Ellis of Harrellsville; and three brothers, James Robert Earley of Harrellsville, Freddie Earley of Conway and Doug Earley of Como.

A celebration of life service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, at Sycamore Baptist Church, Franklin, by the Rev. Dr. Roger Crump.

Burial will be in the Earley family cemetery, Harrellsville.

William Davis

ROANOKE RAPIDS n William Eugene Davis, 69, died August 31, 2006 at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

Joseph Hall Jr.

AHOSKIE n Mr. Joseph Norman “Buddy” Hall, Jr., age 81, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2006 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital.

Mr. Hall was born Nov. 5, 1924 in Bertie County, NC, the son of the late Joseph N. Hall, Sr. and Fannie Baugham Hall. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Erlene M. Hall. He was former owner of Pocahontus Amoco Service Station in Ahoskie, NC. He was a member of Center Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include his daughter, Kay Hall Vinson and her husband, Bobby of Winton, NC; a sister, Juanita Hall Bell of Cofield, NC; two grandchildren, Kathryn V. Eure and her husband David of Gates, NC and Robert E. Vinson and his wife, Christy of Winton, NC; five great-grandchildren, Ashlyn Eure, Dylan Eure, Courtney Morris, Brett Outlaw and Bailey Outlaw.

Graveside services will be held, Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2006 at 3 p.m. at Highland Memorial Gardens in Ahoskie, NC, with the Rev. Tommy Kiker officiating.

Deloris Mitchell

ROCKY MOUNT n Deloris Mitchell, 42, died August 29, 2006 at Nash General Hospital.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Nashville. H.D. Pope Funeral Home, Rocky Mount, is in charge.

Lillian E. Flythe

LAWRENCEVILLE, Va. – Lillian Erekson Flythe, 90, a native of Seaboard, died

Sept. 1, 2006. She was the widow of Richard Turner Flythe Sr.

Survivors include her children, Bettie Garrison of Cape Cod, Mass., Richard Flythe of Gilbert, S.C., Henry Flythe of Corapeake and Brenda Dennis of Lawrenceville; a brother, William S. Erekson of Virginia Beach; grandchildren;

and great-grandmother.

Mrs. Flythe retired from Miller & Rhodes in Portsmouth.

A graveside service was conducted Monday at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Portsmouth. In lieu of flowers, please remember her through contributions to Alexander Baptist Church, 4315 Pamela Court, Chesapeake, VA 23321, where she was a member for more than 50 years. Hazel M. Jackson

HERTFORD – Hazel Madrey Jackson, 85, a native of Perquimans County, died August 31, 2006, in Albemarle Hospital, Elizabeth City. She was the widow of Philip H. “Pete” Jackson.

Mrs. Jackson retired as the dietitian of Chowan Hospital in Edenton and was a member of Mount Sinai Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Philip Terry Jackson of Hertford and David V. Jackson of Conway; a sister, Reba Madrey Sigmon; a brother, Bill Madrey, both of Portsmouth; two grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

A funeral was conducted Sunday in Mount Sinai Baptist church the Rev. Howard Sutton. Burial was in Damascus Christian Church Cemetery in Sunbury. Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, was in charge.

Rudolph Neal Mitchell

ROCKY MOUNT – Rudolph Neal Mitchell, 74, a native of Bertie County, died August 31, 2006.

Mitchell retired from Nash General Hospital. He graduated from Aulander High School and Chowan College.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Bazemore Mitchell; one daughter, Jennifer Pleasants of Siler City; one son, Neal Mitchell of Rocky Mount; one sister, Lynette Bunch of Murfreesboro; one brother, Richard Mitchell of Windsor; and five grandchildren.

A funeral was conducted Sunday at Englewood Baptist Church with Dr. Michael Cloer and the Rev. Randy Redd. Burial was at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to Englewood Baptist Church Building Fund, 1401 South Winstead Ave., Rocky Mount, NC 27804. Bowling Funeral Home & Crematory, was in charge.

WINTON – Earl La Von Reynolds, 68, a native of Hertford County, died September 1, 2006 at Obici Memorial Hospital, Suffolk, Va..

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church of Winton by the Rev. James Brown. Burial will be in the Reynolds family cemetery. Wilders Funeral Home Inc., Aulander, is in charge.

Reynolds was a self employed mechanic. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Winton.

Survivors include two sons, Lavon Trent Reynolds of Newport News, Va., and Linwood Stacy Reynolds of Murfreesboro; a daughter, Angela Earleen Reynolds Brown; one brother, Oscar Reynolds Jr. of Newport News; two sisters, Nora Mae Ashe and Albertine Reynolds Newsome, both of Winton; and five grandchildren.

Bernice Sanchez

AULANDER n Bernice Sanchez, 79, died September 1, 2006 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

A funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Wilder’s Funeral Home Chapel, Aulander, by Pastor Futrell. Burial will be in the Wilders-Cherry Family Cemetery, Aulander.

Survivors include a daughter, Rosalie Lee of Aulander; two sons, Roy Robinson and Winston Sanchez, both of Honduras; a sister, Gertrude Miller; four grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
