Pauline W. Turner

COLERAIN – Pauline White Turner, 83, of West Academy Street, died Saturday, August 19, 2006, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

Mrs. Turner was born in Bertie County and was a member of Colerain Baptist Church.

She was a homemaker and the widow of Herbert C. Turner.

Survivors include her three daughters, Rachel H. Davis of Ahoskie, Juanita H. Dover of Williamston, and Gretchen H. Rodda of Winston- Salem; three sons, Jimmy White of Hallwood, VA, Ashley Harrell of Colerain, and &uot;Drap&uot; Harrell of Ahoskie; and two stepchildren, William H. Turner and Jo Anne Turner, both of Greensboro.

She is also survived by three sisters, Susie Miller of Colerain, Myrtle Ward of Williamston, and Elizabeth White of Raleigh, a brother, Jessie White of Tarboro; sixteen grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

Pauline was predeceased by her first husband, Leroy Harrell and siblings, Hubert, Grace, Leonard and Vernon.

A celebration of her life service was held at 11:00 a.m on Monday, August 21, 2006, at Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie with Kenton Dover and Rev. Gary Cline officiating.

Burial followed in Highland Memorial Gardens.

The family received friends at the funeral home from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m on Sunday.

William E. Blue

ROCKY MOUNT n William E. Blue, died August 18, 2006 at his residence.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete. H.D. Pope Funeral Home is in charge.

Lala B. Welch

HERTFORD n Lala Blanchard Welch, 108, died August 15, 2006 at Down East Rehabilitation Center, Gatesville. She was the widow of Greenwood Welch.

A funeral was conducted Sunday at Saunders Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Hertford, by Bishop Landon B. Mason. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include five daughters, Annie Jennings of Hertford, Vernice Williams and Bernice Abney, both of Plainfield, NJ, Willie Mae Armstrong of Piscataway and Mattie Felton of Gates; and 56 grandchildren.

Delphine J. Greene

EURE n Delphine Jones Greene, 90, of 2604 Holland Road, Lot 8, Suffolk, Va., formerly of Eure, NC, died Sunday, August 20, 2006 , in Louise Obici Memorial Hospital.

Born in Gates County, she was the widow of James Zachacrus Greene and the daughter of the late Samuel and Ella Mae Umphlett Jones. She was a member of Eure Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Peggy G. Wright of Suffolk; a son and his wife, James Greene and Olivia of Winton, NC; four grandchildren, Pam Meidel, Lou Ann Youngen and husband Neal, Sammy Greene and wife Rachel and Lynn Greene; two great-grandchildren, Quinn Meidel and Cory Davis; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 until 8 at Stallings Funeral Home (the former Harrell Funeral Home) in Gatesville and at other times at the home of James Greene, 101 Mulberry Street, Winton.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 2:00 in Eure Baptist Church Cemetery.

Jameika Battle

BATTLEBORO n Jameika Danielle Battle, infant, died August 19, 2006 at Nash General Hospital.

Annie M. Bond

WINDSOR n Annie Mae Bond, 83, a native of Bertie County, died August 20, 2006 at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Cedar Landing Baptist Church, Windsor, by the Rev. Shelton Barnes. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Windsor. Wilder’s Funeral Home, Inc., Aulander, is in charge.

Mrs. Bond was a housewife. She was an Eastern Star, Elks member, pastor’s aide, Young at Heart Club, Helping Hand Club, a missionary and Christian Education.

Survivors include her daughters, Gladys D. Thomas of Bamberg, SC, Joyce Williams and Gale Williams, both of Windsor; sisters, Chanie Bush, Stella Heckstall, Ophelia Wynns, Alice Smith, Ethel Smith and Mary Bazemore, all of Windsor; 13 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Alice Craig

WINDSOR — Alice Lee Craig, 86, a native of Bertie County, died August 20, 2006 at Bertie Memorial Hospital, Windsor.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at Mt. Arie Apostolic Church, Windsor, by Bishop James Swain. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.

James Bazemore

JAMAICA, NY — James Earl Bazemore, 63, a native of Bertie County, died August 17, 2006 in Augusta, GA.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Lewiston, by the Rev. Alma Lucas. Burial will be in the Veale family cemetery, Lewiston. Cherry’s Funeral Home is in charge.
