VARINA, Va. – The Cashie 14-and-under All-Stars have captured second place in the nation.

The team, based out of Windsor, posted a 5-3 record in the National Invitational Tournament, put together by Babe Ruth League officials and finished tops in their pool play en route to becoming one of the nation’s best clubs.

The Cashie club got of to a great start in the tournament, rolling past the East Boise All-Stars of Boise, Idaho by a count of 20-1.

Jennifer White gave up only one run on the mound and was surrounded by solid defensive play as Cashie grabbed the win.

The team improved to 2-0 in the tournament after knocking off the East All-Stars from Jefferson Parrish, Louisiana by a 3-0 score in the second game.

Christie Brown led the Cashie team with two RBI’s. Brown, Jody Mizelle and Tayler Smith scored the winning runs.

The continued to roll through pool play with an 11-1 win over the Hoboken Shockers of Hoboken, New Jersey.

In the final game of pool play, Cashie fell to Gorham, Maine’s team by a 6-0 decision.

Despite that setback, the Cashie All-Stars were seeded number one out of their pool and received a first round bye in the championship tournament.

In the first round of the tournament, Cashie defeated Newtown, Connecticut by a count of 13-2.

The local squad scored in almost every inning and got a triple by Jody Mizelle and a double from Ashtyn Mizelle in claiming the victory.

The Cashie team then met Concord, New Hampshire’s club in the third round and suffered a 4-3 loss with the Concord club scoring in the final inning to get the win.

After falling into the loser’s bracket, Cashie met Newtown again and claimed their second win over the club with a 3-0 victory.

In that game, Emily Cooke had a two-RBI triple and Sarah Capehart had an RBI-single to pace the win. Christie Brown added a double in the contest.

That win put Cashie into the championship series against Concord and the local team lost 11-1 to close out the series with second place.

The second place national finish came just days after the Cashie All-Stars claimed a first-place finish in the Bobby Andrews tournament in Washington. The team played in the same age-group and won the honors as champions of the sixth-annual event.
