MERRY HILL – It was red, white and green here Saturday.

Lawrence Academy hosted their annual scrimmage here Saturday morning with the green-and-gold playing host to Northeast Academy and Halifax Academy.

The three squads spent time playing against each other working on both offensive and defensive execution.

&uot;I thought the scrimmage went well,&uot; fifth-year Lawrence coach Alan Spencer said. &uot;I talked to both Collin (Sneed, head coach of the Eagles) and Rabbit (Long, the top man at Halifax) and they both seemed satisfied as well.&uot;

As for his assessment, Spencer said he was impressed with both visiting clubs.

&uot;Northeast was a lot better than in the past,&uot; Spencer said. &uot;They played hard. Halifax was crisp and looked very good, but you expect that from them.&uot;

As for his own club, Spencer had mixed reviews. While he wasn’t satisfied with the overall play, he saw nothing he doesn’t believe to be a fixable problem.

&uot;I’m really pleased with my guys,&uot; he said. &uot;We did exactly what we wanted to do. We have things to do – a lot of things to work on – but we’ll be fine.&uot;

Spencer said he saw flashes of excellence from a lot of players, but identified many areas where the Warriors will continue to work.

For his part, Sneed felt his Eagles had made a lot of progress since their own Red-White scrimmage just over a week ago.

&uot;I was pleased with everyone’s effort,&uot; he said. &uot;I feel like we still have a lot of work to do.&uot;

The first-year coach of the Eagles said the offensive line would be key to his team’s success.

&uot;We are depending on the offensive line to push people off the ball,&uot; he insisted. &uot;We need them to do that and the defense to stop some people this year.&uot;

While admitting he didn’t show his entire repertoire, Sneed said what his offense ran Saturday was a good indication of his plans for this season.

&uot;What we did on Saturday is what we’re working on for the year,&uot; he said. &uot;Our offense will be based on the plays we ran Saturday.

&uot;We didn’t show them everything we’re going to do, but if we can run the five plays we ran successfully, I feel like our offense will be successful,&uot; he added.
