Fred J. Bulluck Sr.

CORAPEAKE – Fred Jefferson Bulluck Sr., 80, a native of Bowden, died July 18, 2006.

Bulluck served in World War II in the North African Theatre from 1943-46 and afterwards graduated from the University of North Carolina in 1950. He was an Eagle Scout and served as a Scout Master for several years in the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Additionally, he was an active member of St. Mary’s Parish of Suffolk. Upon graduation, he made a career as an executive representative for Merck Sharp & Dohme (now Merck & Co.) in the Charlottesville/Portsmouth areas for more than 32 years.

Survivors include his wife, Helen “Joie” Joan Bulluck; five children, Katherine A. Hildebrant of Portsmouth, Daphne B. Behrmann of Bellaville, Ill., Harry S. Bulluck (of Glen Arm, Md., Helen B. Ratcliff of Suffolk and Betsy B. Thiede of Glen Allen, Va.; a sister, Frances M. Bulluck; and a brother, J. Davis Jr.; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Naomi R. Isler

NORFOLK, Va. – Naomi Ruth Isler, 87, died July 14, 2006, in a nursing home in Somerset, N.J. She was the widow of Charlie C. Isler.

Mrs. Isler was a Jehovah’s Witness for more than 50 years.

Survivors include three daughters, Elaine Peoples of Forestville, Md., Dorothy Nelson of Somerset and Deborah Isler of Somerville; three sons, Donald and Terry Isler of Norfolk and Robert Isler of Richmond; two sisters, Eloise Dorothea Harrell of Windsor and Alma Cooper of Norfolk; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

David Woodard

JACKSON – David Woodard, 81, a native of Northampton County, died at his home July 20, 2006. He was the widower of Melba B. Woodard.

Woodard was a member of the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church.

He served a tour of duty with the United States Army and retired from Northampton County after sixteen years of service.

Survivors include two daughters, Karen Bryant of Jackson and Kay Wray of Gaston; one son, Brent Woodard of Seaboard; one brother, Jerry Woodard of Milwaukee; and four grandchildren,

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church in Seaboard, by the Rev. Lindsey Green. Sykes Funeral Service is in charge.

Roosevelt Peele

MURFREESBORO – Roosevelt Peele, 48, a native of Hertford County, died July 16, 2006 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

Peele was a member of First Baptist Church, Murfreesboro.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Louise Peele; three sons, Roosevelt Peele, Jr., James Peele and Trey Peele; five daughters, Von Peele, Amanda Peele, Carmalisha Britt, Tina Dillard and Re’Kindra Britt; his mother, Blanche Lassiter of Murfreesboro; and five grandchildren.

Betty Bishop

COMO – Betty Bishop, 56, a native of Hertford County, died July 18, 2006 at Roanoke- Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, Conway. She was in the Golden Circle and Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors include two sons, Randy R. Murphy of Philadelphia, PA and Reginald K. Jordan of Murfreesboro; one daughter, Candace Bishop of Como; her mother, Marion Murphy of Como; one brother, Robert Darden of Raleigh; and five grandchildren.

Fannie Everett

RICHMOND, Va. n Fannie Mae Everett, 59, formerly of Rocky Mount, died July 18, 2006 at Chippenham Medical Center, Richmond.

ROANOKE RAPIDS n Jimmy Lee Morgan, died July 15, 2006 at Guardian Care of Ahoskie.

HALIFAX n Vickie Long Scott, 39, died July 17, 2006 at Nash General Hospital, Rocky Mount.

A visitation will be conducted from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Roanoke Rapids Chapel of H.D. Pope Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin immediately following the visitation at 1 p.m. in the chapel by Pastor Samuel McClain Jr. Interment will be in the Johnson family cemetery.

Thelma Outlaw

WINDSOR n Thelma Bazemore Outlaw, 84, a native of Bertie County, died July 20, 2006 at Bertie Memorial Hospital, Windsor.

A funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Sandy Point Baptist Church, Windsor, by the Rev. Sammy Fields. Burial will be in the Outlaw family cemetery. Wilder’s Funeral Home, Inc., Aulander, is in charge.

Mrs. Outlaw was a member of Sandy Point Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, Roland Roosevelt Outlaw of Washington, D.C.; one daughter, Katherine Outlaw Kelly of Elizabeth City; three grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Adell P. Dent

EURE – Adell Perry Dent, 72, died July 19, 2006.

Robert Lassiter

POTECASI n Robert Earl Lassiter, 65, died July 20, 2006 at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

A memorial service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday at Massey Funeral Home, Roanoke Rapids. The family will receive friends after the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the family for the education fund is his grandson, Brenan Kaleb Lassiter.

Lassiter was a clerk, manager and then supervisor for Red Apple Markets. He was a member of Lasker Baptist Church.

Survivors include his son, Steve Lassiter of Potecasi; his former wife, Peggy Long Lassiter of Emporia, Va.; his brothers, Terry Lassiter of Aulander and David Lassiter of Plymouth; a sister, Judy L. White of Plymouth; and one grandson.

Charlotte Cox

PLEASANT HILL n Mrs. Charlotte Smith Daniel Cox, age 89 of Bethel Church Road, Pleasant Hill, NC, died July 20, 2006 at the Carolina House of Wake Forest where she had made her home for the past four years.

Mrs. Cox was born June 3, 1917 in Capron, Va., the daughter of the late Charlie Benjamin Smith and Nettie Virginia Johnson Smith. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, James Derastus Daniel, her second husband, John M. Cox, and her sisters, Mary Betty Daniel, Ruth Smith and Mamie Hamilton.

Mrs. Cox was a devoted and long time member of Bethel Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir and the Women WMU organization. She was a very caring person and a friend to all who knew her.

Survivors include her daughters, Linda Daniel Meadows and her husband Charles of Pleasant Hill and Shamra Daniel Braswell and her husband Frank of Wendell, NC. Five grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held, Sunday, July 23, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Ricky Barnes and Rev. Franklin Stansbury officiating. Burial will follow at the Daniel Family Cemetery.

William F. Castelloe

AULANDER – William Floyd Castelloe, 71 of the 200 block of Millennium Rd. died July 21, 2006 in his home.

Mr. Castelloe was a native of Bertie County, he had retired from the North Carolina National Guard, retired as District Manager for President Baking Company, was a Deacon and Member of Carpenter’s Shop Church, and sang and played with Praise and Worship Team at the Church, and served as Church Superintendent He was the son of the late Raymond and Edna White Castelloe.

Surviving are his wife of 50 years Mary Ann Odom Castelloe, a daughter; Carla C. Ambrose and husband Brad, Ahoskie, N. C., one sister, Carolyn Hill, Windsor, N.C. ; one brother, Merle Castelloe, Columbia, N. C. also surviving brother-in-law, Robert Odom, Rocky Mount, N.C., brother-in-law and sister nin-law, William Odom and wife Jean Odom, Hopewell, Va. Besides his Mother and father he was Predeceased by a Daughter Julie Castelloe, and his Father and Mother-in-law, Wayland Odom and Nellie Odom Price.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held for Mr. Castelloe at 2:00 P.M. Sunday July 23, 2006 at Garrett Funeral Home with the Rev. Wallace Phillips and Rev. William Odom officiating, Burial will follow in Aulander Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7-8:30 P.M. Saturday July 22, 2006.

JERSEY CITY, NJ – Elsie Askew, 78, died July 18, 2006.
