AHOSKIE – A disturbance nearly turned fatal here Friday.

Three people were shot during an incident at 516 North Mitchell Street Friday afternoon.

According to Ahoskie Police Chief Troy Fitzhugh, officers were dispatched to Mitchell Street after a call came in concerning a disturbance at that residence. While they were en route, the dispatcher informed them of shots being fired in front of the residence.

&uot;Upon their arrival, officers observed three people were shot,&uot; Fitzhugh said.

Sgt. Metzler and Officer S. White called for backup and received assistance from the Hertford County Sheriff’s Office, the North Carolina Highway Patrol and other officers of the Ahoskie Police Department.

The officers also called for rescue, but two of those who were shot at the scene were transported by personal vehicle.

&uot;Officers immediately began working the area looking for the shooter in different locations they were told,&uot; Fitzhugh said. &uot;Each location ended up a dead end until they were told by an officer at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital that the shooter had walked into the hospital himself.&uot;

Fitzhugh said more officers were immediately sent to RCH to both control the crowd that was gathering and investigate the individual inside.

After investigation, officers arrested Marco Eure, 22, of 601 North McGlohon Street in Ahoskie. He was charged with three counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and one count of going armed to the terror of the public, also a felony.

He was charged after being treated and released from RCH and then transported to Hertford County Jail under a $315,000 secured bond.

&uot;I’m glad it ended with no one being fatally injured, but I’m not happy that there were gunshots ringing out in a community where people live,&uot; Fitzhugh said. &uot;There was a gun fired in a community where people live and children play and that disturbs me.&uot;

On Saturday, officers also drew warrants and served them on Tiwan Jermaine Smith, 24, of 600 North Railroad Street in Ahoskie.

Smith, who was injured in the shooting, was charged with felonious aggravated assault, misdemeanor communicating threats and misdemeanor criminal damage to property. He was bonded out on a $13,500 secured bond.

While officers were busy trying to serve warrants on Smith, another incident occurred.

According to Fitzhugh, Aulander Police Chief Jimmy Barmer was in Ahoskie and reported drivers on moped coming down Memorial Drive and driving erratically.

Ahoskie Officers Belangia and Wheeler were headed for the scene while Barmer attempted to stop the riders and detain them.

&uot;At the point Chief Barmer attempted to stop them, they split up and took off,&uot; Fitzhugh said. &uot;They continued to drive erratically through the Ahoskie Commons.&uot;

One of the riders was eventually stopped between the ABC Store and the laundromat at which point a struggle began.

&uot;A struggle began and officers were forced to use OC Spray,&uot; Fitzhugh said. &uot;They were able to handcuff him and bring him down to the Ahoskie Police Department.&uot;

Another rider was stopped on Main Street near Hayes and both riders were charged.

Charged in the incident were Torran Dewan Holloman, 32, of 307 West Rogers Street in Ahoskie and Nicko Rondae Smith, 25, of 600 North Mitchell Street in Ahoskie.

Both had identical charges of misdemeanor speeding to allude arrest, careless and reckless driving and driving left of center.

Holloman was charged with an additional count of resist, delay and obstructing an officer.

&uot;This is a case of careless and reckless driving among these people,&uot; Fitzhugh said. &uot;We’ve had several incidents on Memorial Drive that ended in fatalities. We didn’t want to allow this to escalate to that point.&uot;
