Candidate field increases to six

WINTON – Five-term incumbent John D. Horton has officially entered the race as he has filed for re-election to the Hertford County School Board.

Hertford County Elections Director Sheila Privott confirmed Horton, as well as Marcus L. Williams Sr. of Murfreesboro, filed Wednesday for candidacy of the three seats up for grabs during the November 7 election.

On Friday, Rev. Patrick Young filed for re-election to his open seat.

Young is the last incumbent board member to file for re-election.

He is completing his first term as a member of the board.

To date, six individuals have been added to the ballot. Along with incumbents Horton, Young and Ron Baker, Marcus Williams Sr., Carolyn Mitchell Vaghan and Susan Barnes Williams have all filed for candidacy as well.

Filing continues until 12 noon August 4 at the Hertford County Board of Elections Office in Winton.
