102 season ends

GREENVILLE – Ahoskie American Legion Post 102 concluded their 2006 Senior American Legion schedule last weekend.

The local post dropped a doubleheader to Pitt County Post 38 in the season finale Friday by counts of 13-6 and 11-1.

In the first game, Post 38 scored seven runs in the first inning and built a 12-0 lead after three innings.

Ahoskie scored six runs in the top of the fourth.

With two out, Michael Burton walked, Aaron Hoggard singled and O.J. Dobbin drew a free pass to load the bases.

Burton came home when Jonathan Brantley drew a walk and Hoggard scored on walk to Joe Harrell.

Dobbin and Brantley both scored on Dusty Todd’s two-run double to right-center field before Harrell and Todd scored on a Heath Britt single to center.

Pitt County held a 12-6 lead after the inning and then added a run in the bottom of the fifth.

In the top of the sixth, Jacob Harrell walked and Todd and Britt were both hit by pitches to load the bases, but a pop out and a double play ended the Ahoskie threat.

Ben Bright tossed six innings for the loss.

In the second game, Post 102 is held to three hits as Pitt County took an 11-1 victory.

Pitt County again scored first, plating seven runs in the bottom of the third stanza.

Ahoskie scored its only run in the top of the fourth frame.

With one out, Britt singled to left and went to second on a Judd Whitehead single to left. Jacob Harrell walked to load the bases and Britt scored when Burton drew a bases loaded walk.

A double play ended the inning with Post 38 ahead 7-1.

Pitt County scored their final four runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game.

Lance Thomas threw three innings and suffered the loss. Tucker Warren pitched the final one and one-third innings.

Ahoskie had 12 hits in the double header. Todd, Britt, Whitehead and Warren each had two hits. Thomas, Burton, Hoggard and Jacob Harrell had the other hits.

Ahoskie finished the year at 1-19.
