COMO – Jason Howell, Chief of the Como Fire Department, confirmed on Wednesday that arson had been ruled out as a possible cause for a fire that destroyed a home in Como last Friday.

&uot; After an investigation by local law enforcement as well as the State Bureau of Investigation’s Arson Unit, we have determined the cause of the fire to be electrical in nature.&uot; Howell said.

A singlewide mobile home at 111 Whitaker Lane in Como burned down last week and an initial investigation by Howell and Murfreesboro Assistant Fire Chief Lee Thompson raised the possibility that the blaze may have been the result of arson.

Further investigation by Lt. Will Liverman of the Hertford County Sheriff’s office led to Howell contacting the SBI.

Howell wanted to ease any concerns of the citizens of Como that there may be an arson suspect at large.

&uot;At this time we are not pursuing any suspicious persons for arson or any crimes related to arson,&uot; Howell stated.
