ROCKY MOUNT – The streak is over.

Combining the strong arm of Dustin Briggs with an offense that produced 14 hits, Ahoskie Post 102 blanked host Rocky Mount Post 58, 11-0, here Monday night in an American Legion baseball game shortened to six innings due to the mercy rule.

It marked Ahoskie’s first win of the 2006 Legion season following an 0-10 start.

Briggs was masterful on the mound, scattering seven hits and fanning four.

Meanwhile, Ahoskie’s offense was in high gear, scoring in each inning.

The game begin on a high note for Post 102 as Dusty Todd, Ahoskie’s first batter, led-off by belting a solo homer over the centerfield fence. That was an omen of things to come.

Another run crossed the plate in the top of the second where Jobie Thomas lined a single to center, stole second, moved to third on Jacob Harrell’s single and scored on a wild pitch.

Ahoskie’s lead increased to 3-0 in the third. There, Ben Bright doubled to right-centerfield, moved to third on a Heath Britt groundout and scored on a wild pitch.

It became a 5-0 game in the top of the fourth. Thomas, who singled, and Judd Whitehead (hit by a pitch) got aboard for Post 102. They each advanced a base on Harrell’s sacrifice bunt, setting-up each to score on consecutive RBI bunt singles off the bats of Michael Burton and Aaron Hoggard.

If there was any doubt in the outcome of this game, it was erased in the top of the fifth where Ahoskie plated four markers to stretch their lead to 9-0.

Bright got that outburst started with a single to center. An error advanced him to second and he motored to third when Briggs slapped a single to left. Thomas’ RBI infield single sent Bright across the plate.

Post 102 then packed the sacks when Whitehead was again struck by a pitch. That set-up Briggs scoring the easy way when Harrell drew a bases-loaded walk. Hoggard then smacked a two-run single to left, plating Whitehead and Harrell for the 9-0 lead.

Ahoskie put the finishing touches on the 11-0 rout by scoring twice in the top of the sixth. Again, Post 102 loaded the bases thanks to Bright reaching on an error followed by walks to Britt and J. Thomas. An RBI single off the bat of Lance Thomas plated Bright. Harrell then worked his way aboard via another bases-loaded free pass, sending Britt home with the 11th and final run.
