Holli D. George

ANGIER – Holli Dail George, 37, of 7 Mary Lane, died in her home Sunday, June, 4 2006.

She was a native of Franklin County, N.C,. a Licensed Practical Nurse, and a Baptist.

Surviving are two daughters; Alexis George and Mary Ashton George, both of

Wilmington, N.C., one son; Patrick George, Wilmington, N. C., one brother; Gregory Dail and wife Nancy, Virginia Beach, Va., her mother; Joyce Godwin Dail, Ahoskie, N. C. and her father; Arthur Dail, Ahoskie, N.C., her maternal grandmother, Lila Godwin, Ahoskie, N.C., two nephews; Drew Dail and Nick Dail, both of Virginia Beach, Va. one niece; Katie Dail, Virginia Beach, Va.

A funeral fervice will be held 2:00 P.M. Thursday June 8, 2006, Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, N. C. with the Rev. Robert M. May officiating, burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home

from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. Thursday prior to services. Memorial Donations may be made to a favorite charity.

Edna Rice Hoffler

GATES COUNTY – Edna Virginia Rice Hoffler, 95, a native of Gates County, died, June 5, 2006 at Sentara Obici Hospital. She was the widow of Edward Staley Hoffler Sr.

Mrs. Hoffler was a lifelong member of Beulah Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and was a member of the Women’s Missionary Union.

Survivors include her children, Sally Ann Hoffler Eure of Harrisburg, NC, Marvin L. Hoffler of Smithfield, Rose Hoffler Robinson of Jacksonville and Louise Hoffler Ellis of Raleigh; a brother, Frank Rice of Sunbury; nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

A life celebration service will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday in Beulah Baptist Church with the Rev. Joseph Cockrell and the Rev. Ron Parr.

Burial will be in the Cross family cemetery.

The family will receive friends following the service in the church social hall.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Beulah Baptist Church, 967 US Highway 158 E, Sunbury, NC 27979 or to the IOW Volunteer Rescue, PO Box 97, Smithfield, VA 23431. Colonial Funeral Home, Smithfield, is in charge.

Dorothy Overton

AHOSKIE n Dorothy Louise Overton, 61, a native of Bertie County, died May 31, 2006 at Bertie Memorial Hospital.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Elm Grove Baptist Church, Aulander, by the Rev. Anthony Ward. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Wilder’s Funeral Home, Inc., Windsor, is in charge.

Overton was a retired caretaker for the disabled.

Survivors include a son, Stacey Bunch of Murfreesboro; and a sister, Etherlene Hill of Ahoskie.

Hazel Parker

ROCKY MOUNT n Hazel Cherry Parker, 73, died June 4, 2006 at Nash General Hospital, Rocky Mount.

RICHMOND, Va. n Donna Mae Willouby, 58, formerly of Rocky Mount, died June 3, 2006 at VCU Medical Hospital.

WILLINGBORO, N.J. n John Phillips, 67, died June 1, 2006.

Josephine Crawford

WINDSOR n Josephine Crawford, 79, died June 5, 2006 at Bertie Memorial Hospital, Windsor.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Sandy Point Missionary Baptist Church, Windsor. A visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Gilliam Funeral Home Chapel, Windsor. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Verna Willoughby

RICHMOND, Va. n Verna Mae Willoughby, 58, formerly of Rocky Mount, died June 3, 2006.

J. Alvah Winslow

BELVIDERE – James Alvah Winslow, 87, a native of Perquimans County, died June 4, 2006, in Guardian Care of Elizabeth City.

Winslow was born worked with the Town of Hertford for 20 years and retired as the supervisor of the Public Works Department. He was a member of Up River Friends Meeting.

Survivors include his wife, Edna Elizabeth Winslow; a daughter, Kay W. Boyce of Belvidere; a sister, Alcora W. Wiggins of Gates; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A funeral was conducted Wednesday. in Up River Friends Meeting by the Rev. Larry Frank and the Rev. Tom McClaren. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Miller Funeral Home, Edenton, was in charge.

Eva Leary

MERRY HILL n Eva Leary, 80, a native of Bertie County, died June 4, 2006 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

She was a member of Ashland Baptist Church.

Survivors include sons, Carlton Leary and James Leary, both of Merry Hill, Starkey Leary of Aulander, Bobby Leary of Greensboro and Tracy Leary of Edenton; daughters, Eva Leary and Wilhemina Leary, both of Merry Hill; a sister, Sarah Riddick of Merry Hill; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

OWINGS MILLS, MD –

Ralph G. Wiggins Sr., 69, a native of Bertie County, died June 1, 2006 at his residence.

Wiggins was a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church and a retired floor tile installer.
