Ralph Wiggins Sr.

OWINGS, Md. n Ralph G. Wiggins Sr., died June 1, 2006 at his residence.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Spring Hill Baptist Church, Lewiston by the Rev. Leroy Douglas. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Wilder’s Funeral Home, Inc., Aulander, is in charge.

Wiggins was a retired floor tile installer. He was a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church.

Dorothy Overton

AHOSKIE n Dorothy Louise Overton, 61, a native of Bertie County, died May 31, 2006 at Bertie Memorial Hospital.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Elm Grove Baptist Church, Aulander, by the Rev. Anthony Ward. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Wilder’s Funeral Home, Inc., Windsor, is in charge.

Overton was a retired caretaker for the disabled.

Survivors include a son, Stacey Bunch of Murfreesboro; and a sister, Etherlene Hill of Ahoskie.

Thomas H. Bowen

OXNARD, Calif. – Thomas Holder Bowen, a native of Williamston, died May 26, 2006, at Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura, Calif.

Bowen retired from the Navy in 1969 and was formally retired in 1972 with 30 years of service. He went to work for Sherman Sampson at the Sampson Sash and Screen in Oxnard.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy; son, Tom of Clarksville, Ark.; daughter, Barbara Wickham of Marshfield, Wis.; twin sons Kenneth and Kevin of Oxnard; brothers and sisters, Lloyd Irvin Bowen of Portsmouth, Va. Dorothy McCarty of Medford, Ore., Hubbard Bowen of Milledgeville, Ga., Claude Bowen of Huntersville, Syble Meeks of Fayetteville, George Bowen of Colerain, Millard Bowen of Brockport, N.Y., and James &uot;Jimmy&uot; Bowen of Jacksonville, Fla.; grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Hopefully, there will be a memorial service for Thomas on the 28th or 29th of July this summer, when the family that can come to Oxnard will gather at the memorial on Port Hueneme Beach. The family is going to honor Thomas with donations to the Lawrence Memorial Public Library, 204 Dundee St., Windsor, NC 27983, Thomas’ childhood hometown. The library was heavily damaged by the floods from Hurricane Floyd in 1999.

Phillip Sanderlin

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Phillip Sanderlin, 84, a native of Windsor, NC, died May 31, 2006, at Sentara Nursing Center.

Sanderlin was a member of Mount Gilead Pentecostal Holiness Church where he served as a deacon. Phillip retired after 20 years of service as a landscaper.

Survivors include two nephews and five nieces.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Mount Gilead Pentecostal Holiness Church, Colley Avenue and 37th Street by Bishop Nancy Jenkins. Interment will be at Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Family and friends will assemble at 954 Maltby Ave. one hour prior to the service for the procession to the church. Gladys White

ASKEWVILLE n Gladys Marie Jordan White, 85, a native of Chowan County, died June 2, 2006 at Chowan Skilled Nursing facility. She was the widow of William Scott White.

A funeral was conducted Monday at Askewville Baptist Church by the Rev. Freddie Harris. Walker Funeral Home, Windsor, was in charge.

Mrs. White was a sewing machine operator and a member of Askewville Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Scarborough White of Ahoskie; a sister, Edna Ford, of Ahoskie; three brothers, Early Jordan of Chowan County, Paul Jordan of Hampton, Va., and Raymond Jordan of Stafford; 16 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
