Rec holds contests

AHOSKIE – A variety of Ahoskie Recreation Department summer league games have taken place in the last two weeks.

Rotary – 8, WOW – 2

Rotary used a five-run second inning to top WOW in a Midget League game June 1.

Matthew Judge got the pitching victory with a two-strikeout performance while Woody Lowe had five strikeouts in relief.

Brice Jackson, Woody Lowe, Logan Jenkins and Judge each had a hit for Rotary.

&uot;Overall, we had a good team effort,&uot; Rotary coach James Judge said.

Pizza Inn – 8, Integrated Family Services – 4

Pizza Inn’s four-run second was the difference in an 8-4 Midget League win June 1.

Chris Adams led Pizza Inn to the victory with a six-strikeout performance on the mound.

Devin Ivey had a double for Pizza Inn while Tanner Pennington, Paris Hand and John Reynolds each had base hits.

Stoney Creek – 13, Athlete’s Foot – 3

Stoney Creek used a seven-run rally to edge Athlete’s Foot 13-3 in a Little League game June 2.

Stoney Creek scored two in the first, two in the second, seven in the thirds and two in the fourth to secure the victory.

Marvin Harrell led Stoney Creek offensively with a 3-for-3 performance at the plate while Daniel Merritt was 2-for-3. Mitchell Godwin had a triple and an RBI while Brandon Nichols had an inside-the-park homerun.

Marvin Harrell took the pitching victory while striking out eight.

Tyler Burden had an eight-strikeout performance on the mound for Athlete’s Foot in the loss. He also had a single.

Chase Colsen led Athlete’s Foot with a 2-for-2 day at the plate.

Kiwanis – 5, Rotary – 1

Kiwanis improved to 5-0 on the season with a 5-1 win over Rotary in a Midget League game June 5.

Landon Larabee and Tyler Hall were each 2-for-2 for Kiwanis in the win. Hall added three RBI’s to his performance while Bryan Merritt was 2-for-3 with a triple.

Quincy Godwin and Devin Moore were each 1-for-1 while Brandon Terry and Bobby Merritt were each 1-for-3. Hunter Benton was 1-for-2 on the night.

Rotary dropped to 3-1 with the loss.

Ryan Weaver, who was 2-for-3, led them. Eric Ortiz was 1-for-3 with an RBI and Logan Jenkins was 1-for-2.

Lions – 16, Athlete’s Foot – 1

Brandon Owens struck out four to lead Lions to a 16-1 victory over Athlete’s Foot in a Midget League game June 6. Clay Barmer had one strikeout in relief.

Jordan Harrell led Lions offensively with two triples while Owens, Cade Larabee, Michael Byrum and Landon Larabee had one hit each.

Chase Colsen, Tyler Burden, Marquaze Lee, Brandon Staten and Tevin Wiggins led Athlete’s Foot offensively.

Brandon Staten had two strikeouts in the loss for Athlete’s Foot.

Stoney Creek – 4, Cooper-Melton – 3

Petey Boone struck out 13 to lead Stoney Creek to a 4-3 Little League victory over Cooper-Melton Bus Lines June 6.

Chris Edwards had a base hit in the bottom of the sixth that knocked in the game-winning run for Stoney Creek, breaking a 3-all tie.

Offensive leaders for Stoney Creek were Marvin Harrell (3-for-3 with two RBIs), Daniel Merritt (2-for-3) and Mitchell Godwin (2-for-3 with a triple).

Andy’s – 6, Savin & Hill – 5

Andy’s scored two runs in each of the first two innings June 6 to take a 6-5 Junior League victory over Savin & Hill.

Miles Harrell led Andy’s with a pair of singles while Blake Hill, Edward Joyner, Corey Saunders, Tony Adams, Brandon Warren and Michael Morris each had a hit.

Hill was the winning pitcher with two strikeouts.

David Bracket led Savin & Hill with a 3-for-4 performance wile Thad Perry and Grayson Toms were each 2-for-4.

Toms had eight strikeouts despite suffering the loss.
