Greenville tops Ahoskie

AHOSKIE – Pitt County Post 160 knocked off Ahoskie Post 102 10-0 in a Senior American Legion baseball game here Thursday night.

Pitt County opened their scoring in the top of the first frame.

They plated two runs to take the early advantage.

In the bottom of the same inning, Ben Bright and Dusty Todd had back-to-back singles with one out.

On a fly out, Bright was thrown out trying to advance to third, ending the inning with Pitt County ahead 2-0.

Post 160 added a run in the top of the second and then plated two in the third to go ahead 5-0.

Ahoskie’s final threat came in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Jacob Harrell got the inning started with a walk and then, after one out, Harrell moved to second on a single by Michael Burton.

Burton and Harrell advanced to second and third respectively on an O.J. Dobbin groundout, but another groundout ended the threat.

Pitt County added one in the top of the sixth and their final four marks in the top of the seventh to secure the 10-0 victory.

Briggs pitched five and one-third innings for the loss. Tucker Warren and Bright also saw time on the mound.

Ahoskie recorded four hits in the contest. Todd, Bright, Briggs and Burton had those hits.

Ahoskie started the season 0-2 and will play Kinston at home tonight (Saturday) at 7 p.m. and will play at home Sunday at 7 p.m.
