Post 38 nips Ahoskie

ROANOKE RAPIDS n Roanoke Rapids Post 38 edged Ahoskie Post 102, 5-4, in a Junior American Legion baseball game here Saturday afternoon.

Roanoke Rapids scored a run in the bottom of the first frame when Nick Short delivered an RBI-groundout. They added another mark in the bottom of the second, scoring on a Zack Isles single to make it 2-0.

Ahoskie got on the board in the top of the third inning. Josh Morris singled to center and scored on a Robert Jacot RBI-double down the right field line, cutting the deficit to 2-1.

Post 38 edged back to a two-run lead with Timmy Smith’s RBI-single in the bottom of the fourth that made it 3-1.

In the top of the fifth, Dustin Baker singled and Jonathan Wester doubled, but two strikeouts ended the Post 102 threat.

Roanoke Rapids then pushed their edge to 5-1 with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Those scores came on a Jake Dixon two-run double.

Ahoskie then plated three in the top of the seventh.

With one out, Hunt Lowe singled to center and runner Roger Harrison went to second on a Wester single to left. Morris had a base hit to load the bases.

With two out, Harrison, Wester and Morris scored on a Bradley Rogerson three-run double to left-center field. A lineout to the shortstop ended the game.

Jacob Dunlow pitched four and two-thirds of an inning, allowing three runs on five hits and striking out eight. Lowe tossed the final one and one-third innings, allowing two runs on one hit.

Ahoskie had 10 hits total. They were led by Wester, Morris and Jacot, each of whom recorded two hits.

The loss drops Ahoskie to 0-3 as they head into Saturday’s contest at Rocky Mount.
