Horace R. Jefferson

COLERAIN – Horace R. Jefferson, 68, died May 6, 2006 in Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

A funeral will be conducted at noon Thursday in Mount Ararat Missionary Baptist Church, Windsor. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Gilliam Funeral Home is in charge.

Roger L. Garrett

COLERAIN – Roger L. Garrett, 77, a native of Bertie County, died May 8, 2006 at his residence.

Garrett was a member of Elm Grove Missionary Baptist Church.

He was retired from Georgia Pacific, Ahoskie.

Survivors include his wife, Catherine Moore Garrett of Colerain;

three sons, Johnny Garrett of Ft. Belvoir, VA, Curtis Garrett of Raleigh and Cordell Garrett of Louisville, KY;

three daughters, Brenda Garrett of Richmond, VA, Sophia Weaver of Colerain and Linda Moore of Aulander;

nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Elm Grove Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Anthony Ward.

Interment will be in the church cemetery, Ahoskie.

Solomon G. Cannon

ROCKY MOUNT n Solomon G. Cannon, 23, died May 3, 2006.

A funeral will be conducted at noon Thursday at Gilberata Church, Tarboro. H.D. Pope Funeral Home, Rocky Mount, is in charge.

Charles Stevenson

HENDERSON n Charles Edward Stevenson, 66, a native of Honolulu, Hawaii, died May 8, 2006 at his home.

Stevenson was a Marine veteran and had retired with the Louisiana State Highway Patrol.

A memorial service will be conducted Saturday in Baton Rouge, LA. Massey Funeral Home, Roanoke Rapids, is in charge.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly Dunlow Stevenson, formerly of Windsor; stepdaughters, Sarah “Cricket” Jernigan and Annie Jernigan, both of Henderson; his son, William Stevenson of Kenner; and his sister, Mary Ellen Near of Fairview, Tenn.

Charlene Weston Minor

ELIZABETH CITY – Charlene Weston Minor, 41, a native of Pasquotank County, died May 5, 2006, in Ahoskie.

Survivors include her daughter, Amber Ballard of Portsmouth; two sisters, Neva Johnson of Tyner and Emily Weston of Elizabeth City; and three brothers, Richard Weston of Columbia, S.C., Darby Weston and Tom Weston, both of Newport News.

Lloyd L. Britt

FRANKLIN, Va. – Lloyd Lee Britt, 77, a native of Como, died May 4, 2006. He was the widower of Marian Weaver Britt.

Britt retired from carpentry.

Survivors include a daughter, Catherine Saunders Norman of Gates.; a son, Robert Washington of Norfolk; 13 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday

in White Oak Spring Missionary Baptist Church, 26125 Delaware Road, Franklin, by the Rev. Pastor William E. Owens. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery. Vaughan Funeral Home is in charge.

Dorothy Jernigan

WINDSOR n Dorothy White Jernigan, 69, a native of Bertie County, died May 9, 2006 at Pitt Memorial Hospital.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Askewville Baptist Church by the Rev. Freddie Harris. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday night from 7-8:30 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home. Memorial gifts may be made to the Askewville Rescue Squad, PO Box 88, Windsor, NC 27983.

Mrs. Jernigan retired from Askewville Elementary School as a Child Nutritionist. She was a member of Askewville Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher and director of the Senior Citizens Group.

Survivors include her husband, T.J. Jernigan; one daughter, Wanda J. Hoggard; sons, T.J. Jernigan Jr. and Donald Jernigan; sisters, Anna W. Jernigan and Carolyn W. White, all of Windsor; a brother, Livingston “L.J.” White of Edenton; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Annabelle Crutcher

HARRELLSVILLE n Annabelle Crutcher, died May 5, 2006 in New York, NY.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at New Harrellsville Chapel Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Robert Lewis. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Walker of Palm City, FL, and Sandra Cooper of New York; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Chassity L. Britt

HARRELLSVILLE – Chassity Lyndell Britt, 18, a native of Greensboro, died May 6, 2006 in her home.

Miss Britt was a member of Christian Harbor Baptist Church.

She was a high school senior.

Survivors include her mother, Jennifer Hensley of Miami, FL; her father and stepmother, Neal Thomas Britt and Donna Britt of Harrellsville; a half sister, Brittany Britt of Harrellsville; maternal grandparents, Darryl and Barbara Hensley of Michigan; and paternal grandmother, Ethelyn Britt of Harrellsville.

A graveside service was conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Britt family cemetery, Baker Road, Harrellsville, by the Rev. Jimmy Jarrell and Rev. David Bryan.

Memorial donations may be made to the Harrellsville Fire Department or to Harrellsville Baptist Church.
