Rich Square woman charged in wreck

AHOSKIE – A Rich Square woman was charged in a two-car crash here Thursday that resulted in injuries to several individuals.

Ahoskie Traffic Safety Officer Kenneth Mizelle charged Nicole Hughes with failing to stop at a stop sign.

The accident occurred at approximately 5:21 p.m. Thursday at the corner of Hayes and Maple streets. Mizelle’s report revealed that Hughes failed to stop her 1997 Ford passenger car as it was traveling south on Maple Street.

Upon allegedly running the stop sign, Hughes’ vehicle struck a 1998 Pontiac passenger car operated by Princess Anne Joyner of Como. The Pontiac was traveling west on Hayes Street at the time of the accident.

After impact, Joyner’s vehicle struck a utility pole.

The extent of the injuries sustained by the drivers and the occupants of both vehicles was not known.
