Marian B. Joyner

AULANDER n Marian Bodiford Joyner, 76, of NC Highway 561, died Saturday, April 29, 2006, in her home.

Mrs. Joyner was born in Bertie County, a daughter of the late Roy Bodiford and Bertha Futrell Bodiford Blowe.

She was a member of St. John Baptist Church and a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, William Harrison “Billy” Joyner; a daughter, Judy J. Perry and her husband, Pat of Ahoskie; three sons, Freddy Joyner of Clayton, NC, Al Joyner and wife, Jackie of Rutherfordton, NC, Gary Joyner of Aulander; sisters, Cora Eagles of Mt. Jackson, VA, Annie Rae Hall of Conway; brothers, Robert Blowe of Aulander, Royce Blowe of Greensboro, NC; grandchildren, Jesse Sumner of Murfreesboro, Ashton Sumner of Ahoskie, Matt Joyner and Victoria Joyner of Clayton, Will Joyner and Lee Joyner of Rutherfordton; and great grandchildren, Katelyn, Brett and Bailey Sumner.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 2, 2006, at St. John Baptist Church, with the Rev. Don Christian and Rev. Woody Copeland officiating.

Burial will follow in Job Cemetery.

The family received friends at Garrett Funeral Home, from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. Monday.

Ruby C. Futrell

AHOSKIE – Mrs. Ruby Clark Conner Futrell, age 90 died peacefully at the Ahoskie House in Ahoskie, NC on Sunday, April 30, 2006.

Mrs. Futrell was a native of Bertie County.

She was married to the late Carlton “Buddy” Conner in 1936.

She was a member of the Kelford Baptist Church and a member of the WMU for a number of years.

Mrs. Futrell also served on the Parents Teacher Organization.

Following the death of Mr. Conner she later was married to the late Issac Futrell.

Mrs. Futrell worked for many years as a private duty caregiver lending aid to many people.

Also preceding her in death are her mother, Lizzie Parker Clark, her father, Jamie Clark, and her brother, Jay Clark.

Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn Askew and her husband Arthur of Ahoskie, NC, one son, James C. Connor of Rocky Mount, NC, one sister Tula C. Brigman of Enfield and a sister-in-law Allie V. Clark of Lewiston, NC.

Also surviving are five grandchildren, Scott and Chris Connor, Pam Askew, Victoria Schaefer and Arthur Askew, Jr. and three great grandchildren, Zachary and Justin Connor and Arthur Luke Askew and two nieces, Linda Minton and Sadie Blackmon.

Graveside services will be held at 2 P.M. at the Roxobel-Kelford Cemetery in Roxobel on Tuesday, May 2, 2006 with the Rev. Tommy Kiker and Rev. Henry Boschen officiating.

The family received friends at Sykes Funeral Service in Rich Square on Monday evening from 7:00-8:30 P.M.

Annie Spivey

HERTFORD – Annie Spivey, 89, died April 24, 2006.

A funeral was conducted Monday in Apostolic Faith Holiness Church, Sunbury. Stallings Funeral Home was in charge.

Christopher Weatherford

CORAPEAKE – Christopher Price Weatherford, 24, a native of Norfolk, Va., formerly of Corapeake, and more recently of Kelston Place in Charlotte, died April 28, 2006.

Weatherford was a member of Parker’s United Methodist Church and he was a graduate of East Carolina University and worked in video sales and rentals.

Survivors include his parents, Randall S. and Pamela Blanchard Weatherford of Corapeake; a brother, Shawn A. Weatherford of Raleigh; maternal grandmother, Jean H. Blanchard of Virginia Beach; and paternal grandparents, Raymond and Joyce Weatherford of Norfolk.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Parker’s United Methodist Church by the Rev. Mike Askew. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, is in charge. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Sunbury Volunteer Fire Department Station No. 2 Building Fund, 95 Parker’s Fork Road, Corapeake, NC 27926 or to the cemetery fund of Parker’s United Methodist Church, 359 Parker’s Fork Road, also in Corapeake.

Robert D. Jenkins

RALEIGH n Robert D. “Jack” Jenkins, 76, a native of Potecasi,

died April 29, 2006 at Rex Hospital.

Jenkins served his country for 26 years in the Army and National Guard, and retired as a Lt. Col. He served in the Korean War and was awarded the Bronze Star. He was a graduate of North Carolina State University, member of the Raleigh Host Lions Club, and also a Sunday school teacher and deacon for many years.

He was a school teacher in Northampton County for eight years, worked for the N.C. Dept of Agriculture and also served as the Executive Secretary for the N.C. Yam Commission. Later in life, he owned and operated &uot;Popcorn Creations&uot;.

Survivors include his wife, Anne Beale Jenkins; his two sons, Darrell Jenkins and David Jenkins, both of Raleigh; and four grandchildren

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Crabtree Valley Baptist Church. Burial will be in Raleigh Memorial Park. Flowers are welcomed or memorial contributions can be made to the Crabtree Valley Baptist Church Youth Fund, 4408 Leadmine Road, Raleigh, NC 27612. Clara Hunter

ROCKY MOUNT n Clara Lee Hunter, 86, died April 28, 2006 at Autumn Care of Nash, Nashville.

Johnnie C. Ward

PEMBROKE n Johnnie Carl Ward, 51, died April 27, 2006 at Southeastern Regional Medical Center.

A funeral was conducted Monday at Mt. Airy Baptist Church by the Rev. Steve and Christopher Locklear. Burial was in the church cemetery. Locklear & Son Funeral Home was in charge.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Ramona Ward of the home; a son, James Willard Ward of Burkburnett, Texas; a daughter, Christi Lynn Wester of Mendenhall, MI; his parents, James and Clara Ward of Ahoskie; a brother, James Lemuel Ward of Ahoskie; and five grandchildren.

James T. Williams Sr.

ENFIELD n James T. Williams Sr., 90, died April 30, 2006 at Nash General Hospital, Rocky Mount.

June J. Pope

COFIELD n June J. Pope, died April 25, 2006 at her residence.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Philippi Baptist Church by the Rev. William Lassiter. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Thursday at Reynolds Funeral Home Chapel, Ahoskie.

Mrs. Pope was a member of Philippi Baptist Church.

Survivors include one brother, Bernard H. Jones of Detroit, Mich.; and one sister, Shirleen J. Lynch of West Chester, Pa.
