Emma S. Gibson

NORFOLK, Va. – Emma M.S. Sanderlin Gibson, a native of Windsor, died April 21, 2006. She was the widow of William Sanderlin and Willie Gibson.

Mrs. was employed at Lido Inn for more than 30 years. She was a

member of the New Macedonia Christian United Church of Christ, where she served on the usher board.

Survivors include two sons, William L. Sanderlin Jr. and Anthony Bernard Smallwood; two daughters, Nannetta Corbin and Sharon Boyette; seven stepchildren; two sisters, Rosa Pattaway and Annie Smallwood; three brothers, Jimmie Smallwood Jr., William Smallwood and Clarence Smallwood; 25 grandchildren; and six great- grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at noon Thursday at Macedonia Christian United Church of Christ, 1426 Marshall Ave., Norfolk. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. The family will assemble at 714 W. 27th St., Apt. 2, one hour prior to the service. Riddick Funeral Service is in charge.

Hester Wyche

COMO n Hester Wyche, 76, a native of Hertford, died April 21, 2006 at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, Como, by the Rev. Elliott Hill. Burial will be in the Everette-Byrum Cemetery. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, is in charge.

Survivors include two sons, Alfred Wyche and Bruce Wyche, both of New Jersey; and one sister, Irene Bennett of Como.

Mable Askew

AHOSKIE n Mable Lee Liverman Askew, 70, a native of Hertford County, died April 25, 2006 at Guardian Care Nursing Home, Ahoskie.

A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Metropolitan Interdenominational Church, Aulander, by the Rev. Keith Askew. Burial will be in Wilder’s-Cherry Family Cemetery, Aulander. Wilder’s Funeral Home, Inc. is in charge.

Mrs. Askew was a retired custodian at Ahoskie Middle School and a member of Metropolitan Interdenominational Church.

Survivors include her husband, Richard “Squirrel” Askew of the home; daughters, Loria A. Jones of Murfreesboro and Carol A. Morris of Windsor; sons, Tony C. Askew of Ahoskie and Kenneth E. Askew of Ahoskie; her mother, Bloomer Liverman of Rich Square; one brother, James “Bo” Liverman; 12 grandchildren; two foster grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Bettie Jones

RICH SQUARE n Bettie Deloris Jones, 49, a native of Northampton County, died April 25, 2006 at her home.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Wilder’s Funeral Home, Inc., Aulander. Burial will be in the Wilder’s-Cherry Family Cemetery.

She was a caretaker.

Survivors include her sons, Anthony Jones and Jacobs A. Davis; her mother, Gladys Jones; a sister, Debbie L. Jones, all of Rich Square; brothers, David Lee Jones Jr. of Durham, William Jones, Rufus Jones and Herman Jones, all of Rich Square; and five grandchildren.

Cellaneous Rainey

JERSEY CITY, NJ n Mrs. Cellaneous Rainey, 79, formerly of Roanoke Rapids, died April 23, 2006 at her residence in New Jersey.

A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Roanoke Rapids chapel of H.D. Pope Funeral Home. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Twilight Baptist Church, Halifax, by the Rev. Danny Jones. Interment will be in the Manley family cemetery, Roanoke Rapids.

Frances C. Alexander

EURE – Frances Curle Alexander, 76, a native of Hertford County, died April 24, 2006, at Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville.

Frances was a member of Eure Christian Church. She was a former Sunday school teacher and held many other positions in the church through the years. She was also a retired seamstress, cafeteria manager and school bus driver.

Survivors include her husband, William N. Alexander; her sons, Thomas B. Alexander of Sunbury, William N. Alexander Jr. of New Bern, Jerry C. Alexander of Ahoskie; her daughters, Deborah J. Massa of Arvada, Colo., and Angela A. Lilley of Eure; two sisters, Gayle C. Futrell of Plano, Texas, and Estelle C. Etheridge of Washington; and a brother, Epenetus Curle of Suffolk; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was conducted Wednesday at Eure Christian Church. She donated her body to the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Eure Christian Church Parking Lot Fund.

Helen F. Eure

GATES – Helen Felton Eure, a native of Gates County, died there April 24, 2006. She was the widow of S. Timothy Eure.

Mrs. Eure was a member of Eure Christian Church, Gates County Chapter No. 335, Order of the Eastern Star and Woodmen of the World. She was homemaker, she and Tim owned and operated Eure’s Brown Eggs.

Survivors include her son, Raeford Eure; a brother, Stanley Felton of Chesapeake, Va.; two grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Eure Christian Church, Hwy. 137, Eure, NC 27935, by the Rev. Michael Brinkley and the Rev. Wayne Gardner. Eastern Star rites will be accorded in the church and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will assemble at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Luther Eure, Hwy. 137, Gatesville, at 10:30 a.m. for the procession to the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the church. Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, is in charge.

Clinton Holley

COLERAIN – Clinton “Boot” Holley, 84, a native of Bertie County, died April 23, 2006 at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

Holley was a retired farmer and was a member of Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church.

He was also affiliated with the Colerain Men’s Society.

Survivors include five sons, Clarence Perry of Greenville, Walter Holley, Levester Holley and Curtis Holley, all of Colerain and Earl Holley of Ahoskie;

nine daughters, Carolyn Holley and Darlene Outlaw, both of Windsor, Shirley Holley, Mabel Holley and Mary Holley, of Colerain, Rose Holley of Clinton, MD, Denise Holley of Suitland, MD, Rebecca Holley of Mitchellville, and Sylvia Holley of Woodbridge, VA; one sister, Doris Miller of Brooklyn, NY;

26 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday at Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church by Rev. Nathaniel Thompson.

Interment will be in the church cemetery. Hunter’s Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie is in charge.

Bruce K. Chitty

WINTON n Mr. Bruce Kevin Chitty, age 44, of Winton, NC, died April 25, 2006 at Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville, NC.

He was born March 29, 1962 in Northampton County, NC. He was predeceased by his father, Ruben Duncan Chitty and two sisters, Kimberly Ruth Chitty and Cynthia Louise Chitty. Before being disabled, he worked with Revelle Builders.

Survivors include his mother, Ruth Francis Futrell Chitty of Murfreesboro, NC; his fianc\u00E9, Dorene Nichols of Winton, NC; his daughter, Maria Lynn Chitty of Boykins, Va.; his son, Kevin Michael Todd of Roxobel, NC; a granddaughter, Madison Dawn Todd of Aulander, NC; his brothers, Ricky Chitty of Murfreesboro, NC and Joel Keith Chitty and his wife, Joye of Augusta, Georgia; his sister, Teresa Warren of Hertford, NC; a niece, Devan Rose Chitty of Augusta, Ga.; and a nephew, Jason Holt Warren of Hertford, NC. Also many other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held, Thursday, April 27, 2006 at 4 p.m. at Massey Funeral Home in Aulander, NC, with the Rev. Paul Edwards officiating.

The family will receive friends after the service at the home of his brother, Ricky Chitty, Mapleton Road, Murfreesboro, NC.

Ruby Staton

AHOSKIE -Ruby Dukes Staton, 81, a native of Hertford County, died April 25, 2006.

She was actively involved in many civic issues in the community and was an advocate for Voters Rights, particularly registration.

Survivors include two sons, Nathaniel Staton and Emanuel Staton, both of Ahoskie;

three daughters, Labrina Morris and Montrose Staton, both of Ahoskie and Myra Wiggins of Clayton; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Harold Murrill.

Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Hunter’s Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie is in charge.
