Pauline H. Trotter

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Pauline H. &uot;Kitty&uot; Trotter, 83, a native of Aulander, died April 20, 2006, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. She was the widow of George T. Trotter.

Mrs. Trotter had retired from Maryview Hospital. She was a member of New Mount Olivet Baptist Church in Portsmouth and the Nurses and Ushers ministries.

Survivors include two sons, George L. Trotter of Las Vegas, Nev., and Charlie C. Trotter of Portsmouth; four sisters, Edna McNeal, Mary L. Williams, Margaret McDaniels and Beulah B.M. Downs Stevenson, all of Portsmouth; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in New Mount Olivet Baptist Church, Portsmouth, by the Rev. Milton R. Blount. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home, Portsmouth, will begin at noon Tuesday. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. The body will be taken to the church at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Milton C. Parker

MANHATTAN, N.Y. – Milton C. Parker, 75, died April 19, 2006.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Galilee Baptist Church, Branchville, Va. Faison’s Funeral Home Inc., Seaboard, is in charge.

George Hoggard

WINDSOR n George “Andy” Andrew Hoggard, 50, a native of Bertie County, died April 23, 2006 at his sister’s home in Plymouth.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Carpenter Shop Church, Ahoskie, by the Rev. Wallace Phillips. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery, Windsor. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Walker Funeral Home, Windsor, and other times from the home of his daughter, 915 N. Academy St., Ahoskie. Hoggard was a lawn care contractor and attended the Carpenter Shop Church.

Survivors include his daughter, Tracy Hoggard Ward of Ahoskie; three sisters, Stella H. Miller of Plymouth, Belinda H. LeFever of Pantego and Lucia H. Robertson of Williamston; one brother, Meredith P. “Toby” Hoggard Jr. of Clarendon; and two grandchildren.

Charlie W. Small Jr.

WINFALL – Charlie Walter Small Jr., 66, died April 20, 2006.

A funeral was conducted Sunday in Bay Branch AME Zion Church, Belvidere. Stallings Memorial Chapel, Hertford, was in charge.

R. Clayton Umphlett

BELVIDERE – Robert Clayton Umphlett, 53, a native of Suffolk, Va., died April 21, 2006, in Albemarle Hospital, Elizabeth City.

Umphlett was employed as a machinist with Norfolk Naval Shipyard, he was a graduate of Gates County High School and Wayne Community College with an associate of applied science in forest resources. Stationed in Germany, he served for three years in the U.S. Army and received the Army Accommodation Medal for Meritorius Service and later served four years in the National Guard.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy Sampson Umphlett; his son, Christopher A. Umphlett of Chapel Hill; his father, Robert E. &uot;Bob&uot; Umphlett and his wife Irene of Virginia Beach; and two sisters, Sheila U. Hargett of Raleigh and Melody U. Copper of Virginia Beach.

A memorial service was conducted Monday in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, by the Rev. Forrest Guthrie and the Rev. Joe Cockrell. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Gates County Rescue Squad, Gatesville, NC 27938.

Rosetta W. Lee

WINDSOR n Rosetta Warren Lee, 48, a native of Bertie County, died April 21, 2006 at her residence.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Herman Baptist Church, Aulander, by the Rev. Alma O. Lucas. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Windsor. Wilder’s Funeral Home, Inc., Aulander, was in charge.

Mrs. Lee was employed with Lea Lumber Co. and a member of Mt. Herman Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Charlie Lee; daughters, Charlene M. Lee of Greenville and Monta S. Bunch of Colerain; sons, Tyrone T. Warren of Greenville; her grandmother, Georgia Henderick of Aulander; sisters, Rosa Mae Bazemore of Lewiston, Patricia Hathaway and Willie Mae Perry, both of Windsor; brothers, Henry Warren, William Warren, Pete Warren, Simon Warren and Alexander Cherry, all of Aulander; and three grandchildren.

Martha L. Lassiter

WINTON n Martha Long Lassiter, died April 20, 2006 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, Norfolk, Va.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Winton by the Rev. Dr. Claude Odom. Burial will be in First Baptist Church, Winton. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Mrs. Lassiter was a member of First Baptist Church, Winton.

Survivors include her husband, Fletcher Lassiter of Winton; a daughter, Paulette Baldwin of Winton; and one grandchild.

Lalar Johnson

AHOSKIE n Lalar Johnson, 64, died April 20, 2006 at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday at New Bethany Baptist Church, Harrellsville, by the Rev. Robert Lewis. Interment will be in Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. Hunter’s Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, where she was on the youth department, a deaconess, Bible school and Sunday school teacher, pastor’s aide and various other ministries.

Survivors include one son, Alton Chamblee of Chesapeake, Va.; one daughter, Chandra Chamblee of Ahoskie; six brothers, James Johnson of Colerain, Willie Johnson of Windsor, Carlton Johnson of Harrellsville, Nicodemus Johnson of Norfolk, Larry Johnson and Derrick Johnson, both of Woodbury, NJ; five sisters, Reaver Minor and Emma Miller, both of Richmond, Arie Savage of Norfolk, Essie Gibbs of Portsmouth and Sharon Johnson of Woodbury; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Clinton Holley

COLERAIN n Clinton R. Holley, 84, died April 23, 2006 at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

Claudie W. Lassiter

RICH SQUARE n Mr. Claudie Wilson Lassiter, age 75, died peacefully at his home in Rich Square on Monday, April 24, 2006. Mr. Lassiter was a lifelong resident of Northampton County. He was born in Lasker, NC in 1930 and was a graduate of Rich Square High School. He moved to Rich Square at the time of his marriage in 1956. He was a member of Rich Square Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, choir member, and Sunday School class president. He served on the first Board of Trustees of Northeast Academy and later as Chairman. Mr. Lassiter was manager of the Rich Square branch of Eastern Fuels for many years and also an Army Veteran. Preceding him in death is his mother, Mattie D. Lassiter, father, Eugene Lassiter, two sisters, Mae Collier and Grey Bristow and one brother, Millard Lassiter.

Survivors include his wife, Sylvia P. Lassiter of the home; one daughter, Robin L. Turner and her husband, Steve of Fuquay-Varina, NC; one son, Tim Lassiter and his wife, Martha of Durham, NC; one sister, Anne Laura Emory of Rich Square, NC; and three grandchildren, Brian Turner, Abby and Eric Lassiter.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, April 26, 2006 at 11 a.m. at the Rich Square Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob Rogers and the Rev. Elmer Joyner officiating. The burial will follow at the Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Rich Square, NC.

The family will receive friends at anytime at the home of Claudie and Sylvia Lassiter, 613 West Jackson Street, Rich Square, NC.
