WINDSOR – Pasquotank scored six runs in their last at-bat to stop Bertie 9-7 here Tuesday night.

The Falcons, who have won five games in their final trip to the plate, had the tables turned on them in the Northeastern Coastal Conference contest.

Leading 6-3 headed into the final inning, the Falcons saw the Panthers plate five runs with two outs to take the win.

George Craig had a two-run single to tie the game at 6-all before Robbie Jones had the game-winning single. Spencer Godfrey also had an RBI-single. The Panthers led 9-6 heading into the home half of the final inning.

Bertie was able to get a run across when Matt White singled to center and Aaron Hoggard walked. Both advanced on a wild pitch and White scored on O.J. Dobbin’s RBI-single that sent Hoggard to third.

A strikeout ended the game.

&uot;We gave this game away,&uot; veteran skipper Randy Whitaker said. &uot;We didn’t make routine plays. This is a game we should have won.

&uot;Lance pitched a strong six innings for us and deserved a win,&uot; he added. &uot;You have to play seven innings.&uot;

Pasquotank took an early lead in the game with a run in the top of the first, but Bertie responded with three in their half of the same inning.

Thomas singled to left and went to second on White’s groundout. He then scored on a Jed Hughes RBI-single to left. Hughes scored when Hoggard doubled to left. Hoggard went to third on a wild pitch and scored the same way to give the Falcons a 3-1 lead.

Bertie added a pair in the bottom of the second frame. Charlie Castelloe had an infield single and came around to score when Thomas doubled to right field. White plated Thomas on an RBI-single to center to push the lead to 5-1.

The Panthers pushed a mark across in the top of the third and another in the top of the fourth to make it 5-3 after four innings.

Bertie scored their sixth run in the bottom of the fifth.

White singled to left, stole second and scored on an error when Hughes dropped a bunt.

Thomas went six innings on the mound, allowing six runs on eight hits while striking out 10. White pitched one inning, suffering the loss. He allowed three runs on three hits and struck out two.

Bertie is 6-13 overall and 2-6 in conference play. They will travel to First Flight Friday at 7 p.m.
