Warriors win battle for top

LASKER – The two top softball teams in the Tarheel Independent Conference battled here Monday afternoon.

Lawrence Academy, the TIC leader and defending conference champion, held a tenuous 2-1 lead through four complete innings, but exploded for six marks in the fifth frame and eight in the sixth to grab a 16-2 win.

The victory moved the Warriors to 11-4 overall on the season and 8-0 inside the TIC while dropping Northeast to 7-2 in the TIC and 10-2 overall.

Jodi White led the Warriors with a

4-for-4 day from the plate including two doubles and

a homerun. Jessica Johnston, who checked in at 3-for-4, also had two doubles and a homer.

Senior Ruth Stotesbury and Sarah Capehart also had solid days at the plate for the Warriors as they each were 2-for-4 on the afternoon.

Kendall Street, Ashtyn Mizelle and Ashley Swain had the other Warriors hits.

Street (4-1) picked up the victory on the mound, going the entire six innings. She scattered six hits while striking out nine and walking only one.

Laura Boone, who was 2-for-3 on the afternoon with a double and a triple, led the Eagles.

Lindsey Bridgers, Ashley Ricks and Lori Coggins were 1-for-2 on the afternoon while Heather Langston was 1-for-3 with a double.
